A strong earthquake on October, 30 hit the western part of Turkey and the neighbouring Greek islands in the Aegean Sea; and it caused the lives of tens of people in the province of İzmir, Turkey and the Greek island of Samos. Many more were injured and there was significant damage in both countries, especially in Turkey. The Peace Committee of Turkey expresses its solidarity with the people of Turkey, the people of Greece and the Greek Committee for International Detente and Peace.
The Greek Committee for International Detente and Peace (EEDYE) expresses its warmest solidarity and support to the people of Samos, to the people and to the Peace Committee of Turkey, which are suffering by the catastrophic earthquake of October 30, 2020, with tens of victims, hundreds injured and incalculable material damage in both countries.

The United Nations Human Rights Council issued a report* by the Independent Mission to Determine the Facts in Venezuela (Independent Mission), which accuses Venezuela of “cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment committed since 2014.” The veracity, timing, and political intent of this report is best understood in the context of a campaign led by the U.S. to overthrow Venezuela’s democratically elected government of President Nicolás Maduro and before him of Hugo Chávez.
The World Peace Council (WPC) expresses its deep concern about the recent escalation of the tensions between Azerbaijan and Armenia over border disputes in the region of Nagorno-Karabakh, which have resulted in casualties on both sides, including civilians. This conflict, which has its origin more than thirty (30) years back, is a complicated matter in which various regional and global powers are indirectly involved.
Event of the Committee against War of Milan to be held on Saturday 3rd October at 6:30 pm CET, about the growing tensions in the Mediterranean. The event will be held in the Casa Rossa of Milan and will be streamed over the internet. 75 years after the US’s atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the World Peace Council European member organizations, reaffirm the need to struggle for peace and end the arms race, and urgency to eliminate nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction.
Marking the 75 years since this horrendous crime and on the UN’s International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons (26 September), we underline the importance of the Nuclear Weapons Ban Treaty and call on countries to sign and ratify it.
