No Pasaran to imperialist aggression and war!
5th Trilateral Meeting; 11-12 October 2014, Izmir
Cyprus Peace Council - Greek Committee for International Detente and Peace - Peace Association of Turkey - World Peace Council

Final Communiqué

The Greek Committee for International Détente and Peace, the Cyprus Peace Council and the Peace Association of Turkey concluded their fifth meeting in Izmir, Turkey under the auspices of the World Peace Council on October 11th - 12th, 2014, following the meetings in Mytilini (2010), Istanbul (2011), Nicosia (2012) and Chania (2013).

The fifth Trilateral took place at a time of escalating tensions and ongoing wars especially in the Middle East. Early October the country of the host organization, Turkey joined the US coalition eagerly enough as shown by its parliamentary decree giving authorization to foreign forces to enter in Turkey and attack neighbouring countries using Turkish territory and airspace.

The djihadist organization “ISIS” is called as the main threat and the pretext for military actions by imperialist forces and their reigonal allies. However this organization and others have been really “made by” NATO countries and reactionary regimes of the Middle East, mainly Qatar and Saudi Arabia, during the war in Syria. Our peace movements reacted against the imperialist plans against Syria by reactionary forces. These plans did not work. It is not a coincidence that shortly after this, ISIS emerged as a regional military and political power, able to control large areas in Iraq and Syria. Now imperialism has a new pretext to intervene to our region! Our Trilateral Meeting calls all peace loving people and forces to uncover this dirty plan and reveal the political, military and economic links between, on the one hand the imperialist countries and reactionary regimes of the region and, on the other ISIS.

We state openly that peace cannot be achieved by the means of imperialist or foreign interventions whatever maybe the excuse, such as anti-terrorism, humanitarian needs etc. The main responsible of the wars in our time, as clearly observed in the case of Syria and Iraq now, is the imperialist powers and their allies.

The 2014 Trilateral is gathered shortly after the assault of Israel to Gaza Strip. As the WPC mission on August to Palestine was composed of our three organizations and the Peace Committee of Israel, we are quite aware of the Israel's terror which is not only blind but does also follow a policy to prevent any step which might limit the position of imperialism, zionism and other reactionary regimes in the region. The last assault was closely related with the hopeful negotiations among diverse Palestinian political authorities, and also recent developments in favour of peoples of the region, mainly Syrian military and political successes over pro-imperialist forces. We salute the Palestinian resistance, repeat once again that there can be no just and viable solution without the recognition of an independent Palestinian state, as a full member of UN, and established within the borders drawn on 4th June 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital; and demands freedom for all Palestinian political prisoners and the right of return to their homes of all refugees.

In the 40th anniversary of the occupation of Cyprus by Turkey, we commonly declare our unreserved solidarity with the people of Cyprus, the Greek-Cypriots, Turkish-Cypriots, Maronites, Latins and Armenians to end the occupation of 37% of their island. We support the solution of a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation with political equality as defined by the related resolutions of the UN, the high level agreements between the two communities of 1977 and 1979, and the principles of international law. We must strengthen our struggle for a solution that will lead to a unified country with a single international identity, a single sovereignty and citizenship, a country without foreign armies, bases and protectors, a country that will secure the rights and freedoms of all Cypriots, the right of the Cypriot people to choose its own road to development according to its own interests.

We condemn Turkish government threats and harassments against the sovereignty rights of Cyprus over its natural resources in its exclusive economic zone, without neglecting the negative role of the actual reactionary government of Cyprus regarding its relations with imperialism and Zionism.

We, the anti-imperialist peace organizations of Turkey, Cyprus and Greece, together with the World Peace Council, demand the abolition of all nuclear, chemical and biological weapons and all weapons of mass destruction, and first and foremost the destruction of all weapons of this type owned by the powerful imperialist countries. We oppose the installment of the so-called Antimissile Defence Shield in Europe, which is promoted by the USA. It is necessary to put an end to any possibility that the Aegean Sea could be used in support of this plan. We defend a Middle East free from all nuclear weapons.

We fight for true protection and support for all refugees and economic migrants. Our three countries being on the very heart of the international migration and scene to death of thousands every year, we agree on cooperate for a common initiative concerning migrants.

Today we witness an escalation of political crises and imperialist rivalries that remind us hundred years before, i.e. the first WW, on the centenary of which, we commit ourselves to move against imperialism the main enemy of the peoples and the peace. We are aware that we need to strengthen the peace movements and its coordination with the popular and workers' movement.

We declare our solidarity with all the peace loving forces of the world, suffering under reactionary oppression and struggling against imperialism, especially the Ukrainian people which is experiencing a fascist escalation supported by western world's so-called democracies, EU and NATO countries.

Our organizations decided to establish a deeper cooperation, to deepen the solidarity between our movements and create common initiatives in our common struggle for peace. Our sixth Trilateral meeting will be held in Cyprus next year.
