WPC Secretariat Meeting held in Prague, Czech Republic

Monday, May 18, 2026

The WPC Secretariat met in Prague on the 10th of May and carried out successfully its meeting, having been hosted by the Czech Peace Movement. The meeting was attended by the Secretariat members from India, Greece, Portugal, Cyprus, Nepal, USA, Brazil, Palestine and Syria with invited guests from the anti-imperialist peace movements of Iran, and the European movements from Britain, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, Serbia, Turkey, Germany, Norway, Czech Republic (host) and Spain (friendly Organisation), which had their regional meeting on the 9th May.
The participants of the meeting took part in the event celebrating the 81st anniversary of the liberation of Czechoslovakia and the Anti-Fascist Victory of the Peoples, held in Prague.

Opening Remarks by the President of WPC, Pallab Sengupta at
WPC Secretariat Meeting in Prague 10th May, 2026

Dear Comrades and Friends,
We warmly salute all participants of this important meeting of the Secretariat of the World Peace Council here in Prague. We express our sincere gratitude to the Czech Peace Movement for hosting us under challenging conditions, and we commend their steadfast commitment to the anti-imperialist peace movement at a time when reactionary forces are intensifying their attacks.
We meet on the eve of 9th May, the Day of the Anti-Fascist Victory of the Peoples. This historic anniversary marks the decisive defeat of fascism and the liberation of Europe, including Czechoslovakia, through the heroic sacrifices of the Soviet Union and the Red Army. We pay tribute to the 25 million Soviet citizens and all those who gave their lives in the struggle against fascism. Their sacrifice remains a beacon for our struggles today.
At the same time, we must firmly denounce the ongoing attempts by the European Union to falsify history—rebranding this day as “Europe Day” and equating fascism with communism. This distortion is not accidental; it aims to erase the revolutionary content of anti-fascist struggle and criminalize those forces that led the fight against fascism. The growing anti-communist campaigns across Europe, including threats against the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia, are part of this dangerous trend. We express our full solidarity with our Czech comrades.
Dear Comrades,
We are meeting in a period marked by profound instability and grave dangers for global peace. The sharpening contradictions of imperialism are intensifying conflicts across the world. The struggle for control over resources, markets, and spheres of influence is driving aggressive policies, wars, and interventions. The risk of a wider, even global, confrontation is real.
Military expenditure has reached unprecedented levels, approaching 2.9 trillion US dollars globally. The United States and its NATO allies account for the overwhelming share of this spending, while millions of people across continents face poverty, rising prices, and deteriorating living conditions. This stark contrast reveals the true priorities of imperialism: war profits over human needs.
The war in Ukraine, now in its fifth year, continues to claim countless lives. The WPC’s consistent position—that this is an imperialist conflict rooted in NATO expansion and geopolitical competition—has been vindicated. We oppose any violation of sovereignty, but we also clearly identify the broader imperialist framework that fuels this war. The refusal of the United States, NATO, and the European Union to pursue genuine negotiations, combined with sanctions and military escalation, prolongs the suffering of the peoples involved.
The consequences are deeply felt across Europe, where economic hardships are increasing. Sanctions policies serve corporate and strategic interests rather than the well-being of the people. The militarization of Europe, including massive financial allocations for war industries, is pushing the continent further away from peace.
Dear Comrades,
The Middle East remains a central theatre of imperialist aggression. At its heart lies the unresolved question of Palestine. For decades, the Palestinian people have endured occupation, displacement, and violence. The recent devastating attacks on Gaza and ongoing repression in the West Bank highlight the brutality of Israeli policies, carried out with the full backing of the United States and the complicity of the European Union.
The WPC reiterates its unwavering support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Without justice for Palestine, there can be no lasting peace in the region.
The broader Middle East is engulfed in instability—from Syria’s fragmentation to ongoing interventions targeting Iran and Lebanon. These conflicts are driven by imperialist ambitions to control energy resources, strategic routes, and geopolitical dominance. The danger of escalation into a wider war is acute, especially with increasing military deployments and aggressive actions by major powers.
Dear Comrades,
In Africa, the unresolved issue of Western Sahara continues to expose the hypocrisy of international institutions. The Sahrawi people are denied their legitimate right to self-determination, while powerful states ignore their own commitments.
In Latin America and the Caribbean, imperialist interference remains persistent. Cuba, a symbol of resistance and sovereignty, faces intensified aggression, economic blockade, and threats. The recent developments affecting Venezuela and the broader region further demonstrate the aggressive posture of US imperialism.
The WPC stands firmly in solidarity with the Cuban people and their revolution. We must strengthen international campaigns against the blockade and explore concrete initiatives, including exchange of delegations and coordinated actions, to express our support.
Dear Comrades and Friends,
In this complex and dangerous international context, the role of the World Peace Council becomes even more crucial. Our tasks are clear and urgent.
First, we must strengthen our ideological clarity and political unity. The anti-imperialist character of our struggle must remain at the center of all our activities. We must expose the real causes of wars and counter the propaganda that seeks to justify imperialist aggression.
Second, we must expand and deepen our organizational presence. This includes strengthening existing member organisations, building new partnerships, and extending our reach, particularly among youth, workers, and progressive movements. Europe, in particular, requires renewed efforts to counter militarization and anti-communist narratives.
Third, we must intensify our mass actions. Mobilizations, demonstrations, and solidarity campaigns must be coordinated at regional and international levels. Our voice must be heard clearly in the streets, in workplaces, and in public discourse.
Fourth, we must enhance our solidarity mechanisms. Whether it is Palestine, Cuba, Western Sahara, or other struggles, the WPC must act as a unifying force for international solidarity.
Finally, we must prepare for upcoming milestones, including the meetings in Montreal and the future World Assembly. These gatherings must serve not only as forums for discussion but as catalysts for action and organizational growth.
Dear Comrades,
The challenges before us are immense, but so is our collective strength. The history of our movement teaches us that the peoples, when united and organized, can defeat even the most powerful forces of oppression.
Let us use this meeting to deepen our analysis, strengthen our unity, and plan decisive actions. Let us honor the legacy of those who fought before us by advancing the struggle for peace, justice, and social progress.
The World Peace Council must rise to the demands of the time.

Report of the General Secretary Thanassis Pafilis to the WPC Secretariat 10th May 2026 in Prague

Dear Comrades and Friends

We salute all participants of this double meeting of the WPC, the European Regional and the Secretariat here in Prague.
We thank the Czech Peace Movement for the disposition to host us and congratulate them for their commitment in difficult times for the anti-imperialist peace movement.
Today, we commemorate the 9th May, Day of the Anti-fascist Victory of the Peoples and at the same time the liberation of Czechoslovakia and big parts of Europe from the Nazi-monster by the USSR and the Red Army. We pay tribute to the 25 million victims of the Soviet Union and to all others who fought and resisted against the fascist axis and lost their lives during the WW II.
On this occasion we would like to underline the unacceptable position of the European Union (EU) which is falsifying history by declaring the 9th May as “Day of Europe” in order to dilute the memory of the new generations about the real content of this anniversary. At the same time the EU has equated Fascism and Communism in Europe, not only as an effort to rewrite history but also in order to blame the victims of fascism and the liberators from it as “equally guilty and totalitarian”. It has to be noted that in the country where we are, there is currently a fierce anti-communist campaign reaching till the threat to ban the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (KSCM), which comes actually as a follow up of the banning of its Youth KSM some twenty years ago. We express our solidarity to the Czech Communists and condemn the threats and political maneuvers against our comrades.

Dear Comrades and Friends

The current period is of extreme dangers and threats to global peace in the world. The fierce competition of antagonist interests and the growing imperialist aggressiveness is being expressed by multiple aggressions and wars in many corners of the globe. The world is being dominated by imperialism on international level and the victims are, as always, the peoples struggling for their just causes. There is a growing danger for a further escalation of the wars with global dimensions.
It is of greatest concern that the military spending worldwide in 2025 has reached the 2,88 Trillion USD. The USA is spending alone 954 billion USD and the NATO states together are spending 58% of the total. At the same time broad popular masses in all continents are getting impoverished more and more, food and fuel prices are growing every day, while the multinational corporations and the big capital are making huge profits.
While the NATO-Russia war on Ukrainian soil has entered in its fifth year and many hundreds of thousands have lost their lives, the principled positions of the WPC from the beginning are being proved right and timely.
While the WPC does not agree with any unilateral change of international borders at any historical moment and in any place, we reiterate that the continuation of this war is happening because of the imperialist drive to secure raw materials, spheres of influence, expansion of NATO and the encirclement of the Russian Federation while the historically fraternal peoples of Russia and Ukraine are paying a heavy price. Additionally, it has become more than clear that the USA, NATO and the EU are not interested in a political negotiated solution which will take into account all security concerns of the involved parties.
The consequences of this war are severe also for the peoples of Europe. The ongoing sanctions on Russia, which we condemn clearly, are favoring the US Natural Liquid Gas which is being sold to almost European countries at highest price. The recent 90 billion Euros subvention (supposedly as loan) by the EU to Ukraine will escalate only further the war and creates huge profits for the war industry in the USA and Europe. The reactionary regime in Kiev does not care about the unending bloodshed since it is the one which opposed during the first months of the war an existing approachment of both sides in the negotiations held then in Turkey.
As WPC we underline our demand to end the war and all hostilities and return to the political negotiations, the sanctions of the USA and its allies to be lifted and to withdraw the NATO troops from Russian borders. The WPC opposed clearly the enlargement of NATO with Sweden and Finland and we express our solidarity to the peace-loving forces in those countries in their struggle for their disengagement from NATO, which was always an offensive criminal organisation organizing wars, coups d’ etat, interventions and violent regime changes.

Dear comrades
The Middle East remains the ongoing lethal hotspot of the imperialist crimes.
When speaking about the Middle East, it is obvious that somebody has to refer to the key issue—namely PALESTINE, which overshadows and influences all developments in the region. Without justice and a resolution of the Palestinian issue, there can be no real peace in the Middle East. There is no other issue for which so many UN resolutions have been issued. Although the UN decided in 1947 on the creation of two states, Palestine has never been established as an independent state. Instead, for nearly 80 years Palestinians have been displaced, persecuted, killed, and imprisoned, while their land and villages remain under continuous and expanding occupation by the state of Israel. In the most recent phase of the violence from 2023–2025, more than 70,000 Palestinians were killed, including 18,000 children. The Gaza Strip has been almost completely destroyed. This situation, of course, would not have been possible without the full support of the United States and the complicity of the European Union, which, together with the governments of its member states, justified Israel’s actions under the pretext of the “right to self-defense.”
Killings and raids by Israel continue today at varying intensity, both in Gaza and in the West Bank. Palestine has been and remains a link in the chain of imperialist plans in the wider region. Currently, a “peace plan” promoted by the United States and Israel is moving forward, aiming to turn Palestinian Gaza into a protectorate. Trump even cynically referred to it as the “Riviera of the Middle East.” And Israel, to demonstrate what critics describe as an apartheid state, has passed a law introducing the death penalty for “Palestinian terrorists.”
The WPC stands firm in its positions for the end of the occupation of Palestine and the establishment of a free, independent and viable State of Palestine, within the borders of 4th June 1967 and with East Jerusalem as its capital. At the same time, we demand the withdrawal of all occupation forces from the other Arab lands (Lebanon and Syria).
From 2011–2014 and afterward, following the fragmentation of Libya by NATO, the Islamic State (ISIS) emerged and became active in Iraq and Syria. Russia’s military presence in Syria after 2016, where it maintained bases in Tartus and Latakia, objectively helped the Syrian people and their government. Of course, Russia also had its own reasons, as it needed Syria to secure access to the Mediterranean Sea. Through intense battles, civil war, and continuous Israeli attacks on Syria, zones of control were formed—held by the United States in the Northeast, Turkey in the Idlib, Israel in the Golan Heights, and Russia within Syria—while Syria itself was losing parts of its sovereignty day by day.
This led up to December 2024, when, after a meeting in Doha with the participation of all the involved countries (except Syria), it was decided to transfer power to the armed forces of the then-designated terrorist al-Jolani, effectively transforming the country into a more “moderate-style” Islamist state and setting Syria back by decades. In Syria today there are no political and civil liberties, political parties and movements have been banned, the USA, its allies and Israel are actually in charge of the country. As WPC we express our solidarity to the anti-imperialist peace-loving forces in Syria in their struggle under very difficult conditions.
All these years, however, the United States and Israel have never lost sight of their target: Iran. Using pretexts such as the possession or intention to develop nuclear weapons, they have periodically carried out strikes against targets in Iran. On the one hand, Iran’s oil reserves, its strategic location, and the Strait of Hormuz, as well as its alliances in the Middle East and internationally (Russia–China), have always been a thorn in the sight of imperialist powers.
Last year, in June 2025, for 12 days dozens of targets in Iran were bombarded, and it was claimed that Iran’s nuclear program had been destroyed. However, the plan did not end there. Taking advantage of U.S.–Iran talks in Geneva to gain critical time, the United States sent two aircraft carriers to the region and placed its military bases on a war footing, launching a campaign over the past month involving repeated assassinations of leaders and bombings of cities and facilities. Among these, the horrific bombing of a school stands out, where 165 young girls were killed. This imperialist aggression of the USA and Israel is not only violating any sense of international law, it is cynical and brutal when the US President speaks about exterminating the Persian civilization!
Recently the blunt U.S. President, admitted what had long been known: that his goal and ambition was to gain control over Iranian oil. Meanwhile, they claimed to be concerned about human rights violations and the alleged possession of nuclear weapons. On the first issue, the hypocrisy is evident when looking at Saudi Arabia; on the second, it is widely known that Israel is the one that possesses nuclear weapons outside international legitimacy. As WPC we have always supported the struggle of the Iranian people for its political, people’s rights and freedoms, for their right to determine freely their destiny without any foreign interference. We denounce the efforts to bring back into the political scene reactionary monarchs which are openly supporting the military invasion to Iran.
The WPC took a crystal-clear position from the beginning of this ongoing aggression, for which the USA has spent more than 25 billion USD already. The European Union is converting its economy into a War Economy, planning to spend more than 800 billion Euros on military spending which despite the contradictions and antagonisms with the USA, is serving the imperialist plans worldwide.
We called upon the members and friends of the WPC to mobilize and take the streets, to protest in front of the US embassies and to denounce this crime against humanity with events and massive actions. We are extremely concerned about the current situation, the deployment of more warships and many thousands of US troops in the region. As WPC we are warning that this war can expand and escalate into a conflict of global dimensions.
Along the aggression against Iran there is another bloody and dirty war going on, once more the Israeli aggression against Lebanon and its people is taking mortal dimensions. More than 1.300 Lebanese have lost their lives upon the indiscriminate bombings of the Israeli army on civilian targets, amongst them residences, schools and hospitals. The Israeli army has entered and occupied parts of South Lebanon while more than 1 million people has been displaced.
In the WPC we are all aware of the root causes of the suffering of the peoples in the region. The USA and its allies in NATO and EU, the Israeli murderous State of occupation but also several reactionary Arab regimes in the region who support or tolerate the imperialist plans. The ambitions and greed to set under the control the rich energy resources, the transport routes, markets and the spheres of influence, are the driving force for the ongoing imperialist crimes in the Middle East. It is of extraordinary importance that the region of Middle East of the WPC will hold on 6-7 June its regional meeting in Chania/Greece where one of the biggest US military bases is situated (Souda Bay)
Dear Comrades The WPC underlines its solidarity with the people of Western Sahara the last colony in Africa whereas its people is suffering under Moroccan occupation and is not been given the opportunity for a free and fair referendum in order to decide its future and fortunes. It is a matter of serious concern how the powerful states on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean but also in the UN itself are turning their back to Western Sahara by not honoring previous resolutions.

Dear Comrades
The region of Latin America and the Caribbean was always at the focus and interest of US Imperialism. All the dictatorships and reactionary regimes were openly installed or/and backed by the USA for decades long. The 4th US fleet and its South Command, supervising also more than 50 US military bases in the area, were and still are an imminent threat to the sovereignty and peace in the region.
One particular and special reason for the attention of the USA was since the triumph of the Revolution in Cuba on 1st January 1959, the island of the Revolution, the first socialist revolution in the American continent. All the US administrations could never accept that the Cuban people chose a different path, a different social and economic system by emancipating its people. The USA has never forgiven the Cuban people for its choice and was always seeking for an overthrow in Cuba, a revenge for all what the USA and its lackeys had lost. The reactionary Monroe doctrine was always present. Considering Cuba as the “backyard” of the USA, it has never stopped interfering, and above all, imposing a sophisticated net of sanctions, US laws and restrictions in order to asphyxiate the Cuban economy and its brave people. It is a general blockade on all levels. The period of the 1990’s was already difficult and was called then a “special period” but Cuba overcame to some extend the absence of the USSR and the Socialist countries of Europe then. After 1999 Venezuela, under Hugo Chavez, developed a mutual cooperation in many fields. Cuba received the solidarity of Venezuela and also the international solidarity.
Cuba was all these years victim of hundreds of sanctions, regardless which party or president resided in the White House in Washington D.C. Additionally the USA put Cuba in the list of States Sponsoring Terrorism blocking Cuba from any international financial transactions, credits or loans. Under the current US administration all the above became even worse after the criminal aggression of the USA against Venezuela (on 3rd January 2026) and the kidnapping of its President Nicolas Maduro and his wife. Although it is not clear what exactly happened in the night of Rambo-style attack of the USA in Venezuela, the WPC denounced strongly the aggression and condemned the illegal abduction of the president that night.
The US military blockade of oil tankers with destination Cuba and the general threats against anyone who would send oil to Cuba started already in December 2025. On 29th January the US President issued an Executive Order in which he called Cuba an “extraordinary and unusual threat to the Foreign Policy and Security of the USA”.
Cuba has not received since the end of 2025 a drop of crude oil (with the exception of a Russian oil tanker some weeks ago) which has affected totally the daily live, the economy, the electricity supplies for homes, schools and hospitals, any kind of public transport, food supplies. The US President speaks openly about Cuba being their next target after Iran.
The World Peace Council is standing in militant solidarity with the brave Cuban people and its Revolution, we are rejecting all actions, sanctions and threats of US imperialism which are aiming at strangling the people, at a collective punishment and violent overthrow in Cuba. We express our solidarity to the ICAP Cuba and through it to the Cuban people, especially this year in which we all honor the centenary of the legendary leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro and his legacy. Many of our member organisations are active in the solidarity movement with Cuba and are organizing political actions and rallies in support of the Cuban revolution. In this context we shall explore the possibility of sending a WPC delegation in August to Cuba along with a special poster calling for Solidarity with the Island of the Revolution under the slogan CUBA WILL WIN.

Dear Comrades
As you all know, the WPC is planning to hold an important double meeting at the end of October in Montreal/Canada. The Continental meeting of the Americas & Caribbean will be held in combination with the Executive Committee of the WPC. The meetings will be hosted by the Canadian Peace Congress in cooperation with the Quebec Peace Movement and with the important support of the US Peace Council (special report has been prepared by the Canadian friends).
The coming Executive Committee will have the opportunity to discuss all important international issues regarding the threats to peace and at the regional meeting we will have the chance to share with our friends from the region important and relevant assessments of our struggle in the region. The Meeting shall serve also the purpose to exchange views and decide upon the holding of the next 23rd World Assembly of the WPC for which exists a tentative idea to hold it in Turkey in 2027.
Thank you for your attention

Communique of the Secretariat of the WPC at its meeting in Prague 10th May, 2026

The WPC Secretariat met in Prague and carried out successfully its meeting having been hosted by the Czech Peace Movement.
The WPC Secretariat discussed the situation worldwide regarding the growing imperialist aggressions as it is being expressed namely with the ongoing war in Ukraine, the war of the USA and Israel against Iran and the severe threats of US imperialism and the blockade against Cuba, particularly after the military aggression of the USA against Venezuela. Likewise, a special discussion was dedicated to the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people by the Israeli occupation regime and its army as well as about the attack in Lebanon, Syria and Iran.
The participants expressed their serious concerns about the dangers of a further escalation which could lead to a generalized conflict of global dimensions, particularly with the possible use of any type of nuclear weapons.
The WPC opposes strongly the enemies of peace, the imperialist forces and the multinational corporations behind them, who strive for the control of energy resources, transport routes, markets, profits and spheres of influence, to the detriment of the sovereignty of the peoples and their inalienable rights to decide alone and without foreign interference their destiny. Particularly we condemn the role of the USA, of NATO as the armed wing of imperialism as well as the role of the European Union which is rearming with more 800 billion Euros and converting its economies in “war economy”. The NATO aggression against Yugoslavia of 1999 was noted as a starting point for the flowing many aggressions. The WPC is troubled with the 2,9 trillion worldwide military spending last year, while popular masses in all corners of the world are getting more impoverished.
The WPC Secretariat expresses its militant solidarity with the just causes of the peoples, particularly against the foreign occupation of Cyprus, Western Sahara, Palestine, Syria and Lebanon as well as with the peoples of Cuba and Venezuela which are facing imperialist interference and aggression by the USA.
The meeting received the opening remarks of the President, the Report of the General Secretary and other reports and adopted special resolutions along with a plan of actions for the coming period. Special points in this plan are the anti-NATO actions of the WPC against the NATO summit to be held in July in Ankara and the solidarity actions of the WPC with the island of the Revolution, Cuba, while approaching the centenary of birth of the legendary revolutionary leader Fidel Castro.
The participants of the meeting thanked the Czech Peace Movement for the warm hospitality and expressed their strong objection to the efforts of persecution against the Czech Communists and the threats to ban their party.

This meeting and in the moment it takes place, will give the opportunity after some time to gather the anti-imperialist peace movements of a region which is in flames. The venue of Chania is related to the US military Base of Souda Bay, which is one of the five (5) biggest with capacity to harbor up to two aircraft carriers. It is often used during all the US and NATO aggressions and proves the strong and active commitment of the Greek government with the imperialists plans in the broader regions. Up to now the confirmed organisations are from Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Israel, Iraq, Tunisia, Jordan, Iran with guests from Turkey and Cyprus and the EEDYE as host. During the meeting there will be also a popular protest rally at the US base.
WPC actions against NATO and its summit in Ankara (7-8 July )
Based on the Peace Committee of Turkey we shall organize as WPC a seminar or conference
on 5th July and shall explore the possibilities for the participation in the tentative mass
rally/demonstration under the WPC campaign YES TO PEACE- NO TO NATO
WPC actions about the anniversary of Hiroshima & Nagasaki bombing (6&9 August)
This important 81st anniversary serves dozens of our members to organize events commemorating the US bombardment and the victims of the aggression. It serves also the purpose to remind our firm demand and position for the abolition of all nuclear weapons.
The holding of the Regional Meeting of the Americas and the Executive Committee of the WPC October 30&31-November 1 in Montreal, Canada
The Canadian Peace Congress will co-host the meetings together with the Quebec Peace Movement and the U.S. Peace Council at critical times for humanity. Mobilization for the success of the meetings starts immediately while special attention has to be paid for the VISA process for Canada.

The Cuban Institute for the Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) and other mass organisations of Cuba will organize an international event commemorating the 100th birthday of the Commander in Chief of the Cuban Revolution. This occasion will be a huge opportunity to form a multinational delegation of the WPC visit Cuba in solidarity with the Island of the Revolution in its heroic resistance against the imperialist maneuvers.
International Solidarity Mission of the WPC to Palestine
Due to the situation on the ground, it was not possible to plan such important visit earlier. We shall explore together with the PCPS Palestine a suitable date for the 2027.

Resolution of the WPC Secretariat on the Solidarity with Cuba
Prague, 10th May, 2026

Interventions by imperialism in the Americas have accelerated with Trump’s rise to power. The military intervention carried out against Venezuela in the first days of this year with the kidnapping of President Nicolas Maduro and Deputy Cilia Flores, became the first major step in this direction. However, Imperialism has never hidden that his main target is Cuba. The intensification of the oil blockade on Cuba through the executive order he signed on January 29 marked the latest turning point of this aggression, which has been added to the inclusion of Cuba in the arbitrary list of States sponsoring terrorism.
In recent months, only a very limited amount of oil has entered Cuba. As a result, the country is experiencing a severe energy crisis. Consequently, the healthcare system has been seriously affected, and a major assault is being carried out on the right to life of the entire population. This strategy is one of collective punishment and strangulation. For this reason, it is inhumane and, in essence, genocidal. As is it well known, the United States has maintained a strict blockade on Cuba for decades. However, this blockade has now reached a point where millions of people—children and the elderly alike—are condemned to hunger and death.
The United States has long been trying to overthrow the socialist system in Cuba. Yet history has repeatedly shown that the Cuban people are prepared, resilient, and determined to defend the revolution and resist these imperialist attacks.
The resistance of the Cuban people is legitimate, just, and represents the honor of humanity. The attack carried out against Cuba is an attack directed against all humanity.
The World Peace Council stands with the resisting Cuban people and its revolution and supports this resistance with all its strength and calls upon all members and friends to redouble their efforts for material support and active solidarity. Sending as WPC multinational delegation to the events that will be held in Cuba this August to mark the 100th anniversary of Fidel’s birth will constitute one part of this support.

Cuba is not alone.
Imperialism will be defeated.
Cuba will win.

Resolution of the WPC Secretariat on the imperialist aggression in the Middle East
Prague 10th May, 2026

Over the course of more than two and a half years since the 7th of October 2023, imperialist aggression by the USA and its allies has aggravated in the Middle East.
After decades of massacres of the Palestinian people and occupation of Palestinian land, Israel’s genocidal policies have intensified in this time period. Despite a ceasefire, these policies are continuing in Gaza and the West Bank. The WPC reaffirms its position and demand for an independent State of Palestine, within the borders of pre-4th June 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital and the right to return of all refugees according to the UN resolution 194.
The latest target of imperialism has been Iran. Although the intensity of the war launched by the United States and Israel on February 28 has decreased, major uncertainties persist, and it remains possible for the clashes to reignite at any moment. In the attacks so far, in which thousands of Iranians have lost their lives and thousands more have been injured, the country’s economy and infrastructure, cultural assets, and educational institutions have suffered severe damage.
Taking advantage of the chaos created by the war against Iran, the genocidal Israeli government has once again intensified its attacks on Lebanon and Palestine. Despite the ceasefire that was reached, Israel’s attacks have not stopped, and many Lebanese continue to lose their lives.
Imperialism is putting into action its preparations to reshape the Middle East in line with its own interests. As part of the imperialist system, Israel occupies a leading role as the main actor implementing these policies in the region.
The primary aim of imperialism is to ensure that the states in the region no longer act independently, and do not take positions contrary to imperialist interests. Of course, they are also eager to exploit the region’s resources and infrastructure. To achieve this, they seek to weaken the states in the region, erode their state structures, and blur their borders. They want to overthrow the governments that do not act in line with imperialist plans and neutralize all opposing forces; as in Syria, they aim to install reactionary governments, loyal to themselves. By provoking ethnic and religious differences within countries, they seek to divide societies. In the Palestinian Gaza, under the so-called “peace plan,” they are attempting to implement the first of these measures—aiming to establish a kind of free zone where intense labour exploitation can be carried out.
However, it has become clear in the recent imperialist war on Iran that imperialism will face great difficulties in achieving its goals and will not easily succeed. The Iranian people united in the face of imperialist attacks and demonstrated strong patriotism, defying the enemy. They made it clear that they will not allow a violent regime change or intervention imposed from outside their own will. The Palestinian and Lebanese peoples, who have resisted for decades, are now being joined by the Iranian people.
As long as imperialist intervention continues, it will not be possible to achieve peace in the region. Imperialism does not seek stability or peace; what it wants is to deepen conflicts and keep them at a level it can control. The path to real and lasting peace lies in stopping imperialist aggression, the withdrawal of all foreign military forces by ensuring that the peoples of the region are left in peace. The enemies of peace may appear almighty, but the organized popular movements can stop them.
The WPC condemns the imperialist aggression in the Middle East and calls for all organised peace movement and peace-loving forces to take action against it.

Resolution of Solidarity with the Saharawi People
Prague, 10 May 2026

Colonialism is not a closed chapter in human history, and all nations still have the responsibility to abolish it. Western Sahara is listed by the UN as a non-self-governing territory pending decolonization by Spain since 1963, and has been militarily occupied and settled by Morocco since 1975. Therefore, the World Peace Council adds its voice to that of the Saharawi people in demanding concrete actions to end this oppressive regime, so that the Saharawis can finally exercise their self-determination.

The Saharawi people's yearning for freedom from colonial rule did not begin when the UN recognized it. Nor did it end when Spain betrayed them and surrendered the territory, or when Morocco occupied it five long decades ago. Still, the Question of Western Sahara remains unresolved on the UN agenda for six decades.

Spain, France, the European Union and more recently the United States have attempted to crush the Saharawi’s determination with spurious agreements with Morocco, effectively endorsing and benefiting from the plundering of the people’s resources, the annexation of their homeland, and the perpetuation of injustice. Morocco, in turn, seeks to crush Saharawi resistance with political imprisonment, torture, censorship, enforced disappearance, displacement, or exile.

Still, the Saharawi people and their legitimate representative, the POLISARIO Front, continue struggling for liberation, resisting both the occupier and its partners, and setting an example for humanity in the process of strengthening the process of social emancipation. For this reason, we salute the Saharawis for the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic on February 27, 1976, which is a founding member of the African Union, and call on all peace-loving peoples and states to continue working for its recognition, independence, and sovereignty.

Morocco spares no expenses to try and hide the colonial nature of its occupation of Western Sahara, isolate the SADR and POLISARIO and build support to its illegitimate solution of granting autonomy to the Saharawis under its sovereignty. This is a colonial plan that overturns the people’s right to determine their own future, one tacitly or overtly supported by the US, the EU, Spain and France. We must reject it.

It is past time for the world to assume our responsibility not with vague calls, but treating this instead as a non-negotiable issue of decolonization to which all states have a duty and that must be concluded.

Free Western Sahara!
