The Swiss Peace Movement expresses its solidarity with the civilian population of Palestine and Israel and calls for a quick end to the fighting. The Palestine-Israel conflict cannot be resolved by force. In the current situation, an immediate ceasefire and peace negotiations between all parties of the conflict are needed. However, we emphasize that the ultimate responsibility for the violence lies with the disproportionately powerful Israeli apartheid regime, which has oppressed and discriminated against the Palestinian people for decades.

Armed groups of Palestinians from Gaza launched an attack on Israeli troops and settlements near the border on October 7th. Hostages were taken and there were massacres of Israeli civilians. The Israeli state responded immediately and with massive violence; entire neighborhoods in the Gaza Strip have now been bombed to the ground. “Israel's response in the Gaza Strip will be remembered for the next 50 years,” raged Israeli War Minister Joaw Gallant. He called the Palestinians “human animals” against whom appropriate action must be taken.

There are already over a thousand victims on the Israeli side and several thousand victims, more than twice as many, on the Palestinian side. A bomb attack on a hospital in Gaza has further increased the death toll of Palestinians. The Zionist government of Israel, the most right-wing government in the history of the apartheid state, shows clearly that it does not shy away from war crimes or international and human rights violations.

The current conflict has a long history that we need to remember. The conflict was preceded by a 75-year colonial terror regime and the blockade of the Gaza Strip since 2007. 75 years of displacement, murder, discrimination and humiliation of Palestinians as well as 16 years of blockade, lack of clean water, electricity, medical care and regular bombings have turned Gaza into a powder keg. The small area where 2.3 million people are crammed in has been repeatedly attacked by the Zionist state and covered with bombs. The last time there were heavy attacks against Gaza was only in 2021

We strongly condemn the murderous actions of the Israeli state, the “revenge” and collective punishment against the Palestinians. Hamas' acts of violence against civilians are also unacceptable. The Palestine-Israel conflict cannot be resolved by force. In the current situation, an immediate ceasefire and peace negotiations between all parties of the conflict are needed. We demand the end of the occupation of Palestine, the end of Israeli apartheid and a just peace in Palestine through the establishment of an independent state within the pre-4th June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Stoppt die Gewalt! Für einen gerechten Frieden in Palästina!

Die Schweizerische Friedensbewegung SFB drückt ihre Solidarität mit der Zivilbevölkerung Palästinas und Israels aus und ruft zu einem schnellen Ende der Kämpfe auf. Der Palästina-Israel-Konflikt kann nicht mit Gewalt gelöst werden. In der gegenwärtigen Situation braucht es einen sofortigen Waffenstillstand und Friedensverhandlungen zwischen allen Konfliktparteien.

Bewaffnete Gruppen von Palästinenser:innen aus Gaza haben am 7. Oktober einen Angriff auf israelische Truppen und grenznahe Siedlungen gestartet. Es wurden Geiseln genommen und es kam zu Massakern an israelischen Zivilist:innen. Die Reaktion der israelischen Staates folgte unverzüglich und mit massiver Gewalt, ganze Nachbarschaften im Gazastreifen sind mittlerweile dem Erdboden gleich gemacht worden. An «Israels Antwort im Gazastreifen» werde man «sich die nächsten 50 Jahre erinnern», wetterte der israelische Kriegsminister Joaw Gallant. Er nannte die Palästinenser:innen «menschliche Tiere», gegen die entsprechend gehandelt werden müsse.

Bereits sind über tausend Opfern auf der israelischen und mehrere tausend Opfer, weit mehr als doppelt so viele, auf der palästinensischen Seite zu beklagen. Ein Bombenangriff auf ein Krankenhaus in Gaza hat den Blutzoll der Palästinenser:innen weiter erhöht. Die zionistische Regierung Israels, die am weitesten rechts stehende Regierung in der Geschichte des Apartheidstaates, zeigt damit deutlich, dass sie weder vor Kriegsverbrechen noch vor Völker- und Menschenrechtsverletzungen zurückschreckt.

Der aktuelle Konflikt hat eine lange Vorgeschichte, an die erinnert werden muss. Dem Konflikt gingen ein 75-jähriges koloniales Terrorregime und die völkerrechtswidrige Blockade des Gazastreifens seit 2007 voraus. 75 Jahre Vertreibung, Ermordung, Diskriminierung und Demütigung von Palästinenser:innen sowie 16 Jahre Blockade, Mangel an sauberem Wasser, Strom, medizinischer Versorgung sowie regelmässige Bombenangriffe haben Gaza zu einem Pulverfass gemacht. Der kleine Landstrich, auf dem 2,3 Millionen Menschen eingepfercht sind, wurde immer wieder vom zionistischen Staat angegriffen und mit Bombenhagel überzogen. Erst 2021 kam es letztmals zu Angriffen gegen Gaza.

Die Schweizerische Friedensbewegung SFB drückt ihre Solidarität mit der Zivilbevölkerung Palästinas und Israels aus und ruft zu einem schnellen Ende der Kämpfe auf Das mörderische Vorgehen des israelischen Staates, die «Rache» und Kollektivstrafe an den Palästinenser:innen, verurteilen wir mit aller Schärfe. Auch die Gewalttaten der Hamas gegenüber Zivilpersonen sind inakzeptabel. Der Palästina-Israel-Konflikt kann nicht mit Gewalt gelöst werden. In der gegenwärtigen Situation braucht es einen sofortigen Waffenstillstand und Friedensverhandlungen zwischen allen Konfliktparteien. Wir betonen aber auch, dass die Verantwortung für die Gewalt letztlich beim übermächtigen israelischen Apartheid-Regime liegt, das seit Jahrzehnten das palästinensische Volk unterdrückt und diskriminiert. Wir fordern das Ende der Besatzung Palästinas, das Ende der israelischen Apartheid und einen gerechten Frieden in Palästina durch die Gründung eines unabhängigen Staates innerhalb der Grenzen vor dem 4. Juni 1967 mit Ostjerusalem als Hauptstadt.
