The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation, together with various social
organisations that, in their daily practice, take a clear and unequivocal public stand against
war and express sincere determination to defend the values of Peace and Solidarity among
peoples, decided to prepare and hold the III Meeting for Peace, to be held on October 28, in
Vila Nova de Gaia.
This initiative follows previous Meetings for Peace, on October 20, 2018, in Loures, and on
June 5, 2021, in Setúbal, aware that it is imperative to find the most appropriate responses to
face the serious threats to Peace that continue to linger over humanity.
This challenge was joined, initially, by the Portuguese Confederation of Cultural, Recreational
and Sports Associations (CPCCRD); the General Confederation of Portuguese Workers
(CGTP-IN); the National Federation of Teachers (FENPROF); the Catholic Working Youth
(JOC); the Women's Democratic Movement (MDM); the Movement of Municipalities for Peace
(MMP); the Movement for the Rights of the Palestinian People and for Peace in the Middle
East (MPPM); the Portuguese Catholic Migration Organisation (OCPM); the Union of
Portuguese Antifascist Resistants (URAP), the City Council of Setúbal (place of the last
Meeting for Peace), the City Council of Évora (coordinator in Portugal of the Mayors for
Peace network) and the City Council of Vila Nova de Gaia (host of the III Meeting for Peace).
The Meeting for Peace will have the general objective of contributing to the promotion of
mobilisation and intervention in defence of Peace and international cooperation, by rejecting
militarism, the arms race and war, having in mind the principles enshrined in the Constitution
of the Portuguese Republic and in the United Nations Charter.
The Meeting for Peace, which will take place close to the 50 th . anniversary of the 25 th . of April
1974, has as its motto “On the 50 Years of April, for Peace, we are all not too many!”, will take
place this coming October 28, 2023, at the Municipal Pavilion - Oliveira do Douro - Vila Nova
de Gaia, between 10:30 and 17:30.

A Paz e os 50 anos de Abril!

O Conselho Português para a Paz e Cooperação em conjunto com diversificadas
organizações sociais que, na sua prática quotidiana, tomam clara e inequívoca posição
pública contra a guerra e manifestam sincera determinação em defender os valores da Paz e
da solidariedade entre os povos, decidiram preparar e realizar o III Encontro pela Paz, a
realizar a 28 de outubro, em Vila Nova de Gaia.
Esta iniciativa surge na sequência de anteriores Encontros pela Paz, realizados em 20 de
outubro de 2018, em Loures, e em 5 de junho de 2021, em Setúbal, conscientes que é
imperioso encontrar as respostas mais adequadas para enfrentar as sérias ameaças à Paz
que continuam a pairar sobre a Humanidade.
Aderiram a este desafio, e num primeiro momento, a Confederação Portuguesa das
Coletividades de Cultura, Recreio e Desporto (CPCCRD); a Confederação Geral dos
Trabalhadores Portugueses (CGTP-IN); a Federação Nacional de Professores (FENPROF);
a Juventude Operária Católica (JOC); o Movimento Democrático de Mulheres (MDM); o
Movimento dos Municípios pela Paz (MMP); o Movimento pelos Direitos do Povo Palestino e
pela Paz no Médio Oriente (MPPM); a Obra Católica Portuguesa de Migrações (OCPM); a
União de Resistentes Antifascistas Portugueses (URAP), a Câmara Municipal de Setúbal
(local do último Encontro pela Paz), a Câmara Municipal de Évora (coordenadora em
Portugal da rede Mayors for Peace) e a Câmara Municipal de Vila Nova de Gaia (anfitriã do
III Encontro pela Paz).
O Encontro pela Paz terá como objetivo geral contribuir para a promoção da mobilização e
intervenção em defesa da Paz e da cooperação internacional, pela rejeição do militarismo, da
corrida aos amamentes e da guerra, tendo presentes os princípios constantes na
Constituição da República Portuguesa e na Carta das Nações Unidas.
O Encontro pela Paz, que ocorre nas proximidades dos 50 anos do 25 de Abril de 1974, tem
como lema “Nos 50 de Abril, pela Paz, todos não somos demais!”, realizar-se-á no próximo
dia 28 de outubro de 2023, no Pavilhão Municipal - Oliveira do Douro - Vila Nova de Gaia,
entre as 10h30 e as 17h30.
