Following the eight actions between October 11 and 29, promoted by the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC), the General Confederation of Portuguese Workers (CGTP-IN) and the Movement for the Rights of the Palestinian People and for Peace in the Middle East (MPPM), nine other actions were held in Portugal, mobilizing thousands of people in various cities throughout the country, demanding an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and other Palestinian territories occupied by Israel and in defense of the national rights of the Palestinian people.

In various ways, all these initiatives sought to raise awareness of the serious situation in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and East Jerusalem; to denounce the Israeli occupation that is the cause of the current situation; and to extend solidarity with the Palestinian people, calling for an immediate ceasefire, an end to the bombings and the escalation of violence, calling for peace in the Middle East, for respect for international law, for compliance with the United Nations resolutions that determine the creation of the sovereign and independent state of Palestine along the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital, and for respect for the right of return of Palestinian refugees.

On November 3, in Lisbon, the lawn in Alameda Afonso Henriques was filled with nine thousand Palestinian flags, representing the number of Palestinian deaths, to date, during the past 25 days of massacre. This vigil featured music, poetry and interventions by the promoting organizations.

On the 5th, in Porto, thousands of people took to the streets in protest, raising banners, signs and flags demanding an immediate end to the Israeli bombings, denouncing the deep hypocrisy of the US, the European Union and various European governments that continue to fuel the conflict and support Israel's war crimes, such as the indiscriminate bombing of the Palestinian population, the imposition and worsening of a cruel blockade, and the expulsion of the Palestinian population from their homes and land.

Eight additional solidarity actions have been announced - two of them being a part of a "Solidarity week with the palestinian people" (between the 26th of November and 3rd of December) with demosntrantions on the 26th and on the 29th - the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People - where CPPC will continue to actively condemn the policy of occupation and oppression that Israel has pursued for decades, to express its solidarity with the courageous and determined Palestinian people (victims of Israeli violence and destruction), and to call for an immediate ceasefire, preventing increasingly tragic consequences for the Palestinian population.

Em Portugal continuam a soar vozes que afirmam:
“Paz no Médio Oriente! Palestina Independente! – Não à Guerra! Não ao massacre!”

No seguimento das oito ações promovidas pelo Conselho Português para a Paz e Cooperação (CPPC) a Confederação Geral dos Trabalhadores Portugueses – Intersindical Nacional (CGTP-IN) e o Movimento Pelos Direitos do Povo Palestino e pela Paz no Médio Oriente (MPPM) entre os dias 11 e 29 de Outubro, já outras nove acções se realizaram em Portugal mobilizando milhares de pessoas, em diversas cidades do país, pela exigência do imediato cessar-fogo na Faixa de Gaza e nos outros territórios palestinianos ocupados por Israel e em defesa dos direitos nacionais do povo palestiniano.

De diversas formas, todas as iniciativas têm tido como objetivo alertar para a grave situação que se está a viver na Faixa de Gaza, na Cisjordânia e em Jerusalém Leste, denunciando a política de ocupação por parte Israel que está na causa da atual situação e procurando alargar a solidariedade com o povo palestiniano, apelando ao cessar-fogo imediato, ao fim dos bombardeamentos e da escalada da violência, pela paz no Médio Oriente, pelo respeito do direito internacional, pelo cumprimentos das resoluções da Organização das Nações Unidas que determinam a criação do Estado da Palestina soberano e independente, nas fronteiras de 1967 e com Jerusalém Leste como capital, e o respeito do direito de retorno dos refugiados palestinianos.

No dia 3 de Novembro, em Lisboa, o relvado da Alameda D. Afonso Henriques encheu-se com 9 mil bandeiras palestinianas, representando, à data, o número de mortos palestinianos nesses 25 dias de massacre, numa vigília que contou com momentos musicais, poesia e intervenções das organizações promotoras.

No dia 5, no Porto, outros milhares de pessoas saíram à rua em manifestação, erguendo faixas, pancartas e bandeiras que exigiam o fim imediato dos bombardeamentos israelitas, denunciando a profunda hipocrisia dos EUA, da União Europeia e de vários governos europeus que continuam a alimentar o conflito e dão cobertura aos crimes de guerra de Israel, como os indiscriminados bombardeamentos contra a população palestiniana, a imposição e agravamento de um cruel bloqueio e a expulsão da população palestiniana das suas casas e terra.

Estão anunciadas outras oito ações de solidariedade - duas delas integrados numa “Semana de Solidariedade com o Povo Palestiniano” (entre 26 de Novembro e 3 de Dezembro) com manifestações nos dias 26 e 29 - Dia Internacional de Solidariedade com o Povo Palestiniano - onde o CPPC continuará ativamente a condenar a política de ocupação e opressão prosseguida há décadas por Israel, a expressar a sua solidariedade com o corajoso e determinado povo palestiniano, vítima da violência e destruição israelita, e a apelar ao cessar-fogo imediato, impedindo ainda mais trágicas consequências para a população palestiniana.
