The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) considers the bilateral and definitive cease-fire that enters into force today (29th August) between the Government of Colombia and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia – People's Army (FARC-EP) to be of great importance. The accord follows the Final Accord for the End of the Conflict and the Construction of a Stable and Lasting Peace in Colombia, recently achieved in Havana, Cuba, aimed towards the end of more than half a century of armed conflict.

Commemorating the 90th birthday of the Cuban Revolution's historical Leader, Fidel Castro, is celebrating generosity, solidarity, internationalism, bravery and dignity. Fidel is the greatest world leader of our time.

Fidel Castro is a political leader who added to the strategies of the Cuban state principles of solidarity with and between all peoples in the world. Cuba’s foreign policy is based on principles that strengthen peace, cooperation and friendship, putting the people and their most essential needs, humane and fair needs, as priorities.

Seventy-one years ago, the world watched, horrified, to the inauguration of the use of nuclear weapons by the United States, at the end of World War II. Seven decades ago, what was unimaginable hit humankind with a frontal blow and marked our history with a stain of terror that can never be erased, on the 6th and 9th of August, 1945.

We would like to draw your attention to the recent provocative deportation of comrade Moara Crivelente, member of the CEBRAPAZ, by the Israeli border authorities on her way to visit the Palestinian Territories. Moara Crivelente was denied entry to Israel and thus to the occupied lands of Palestine and after hours of interrogation and temporary detention she was banned for 10 years to enter Israel.

It is with revolt that we condemn and denounce Israel’s policy of persecution and intimidation of international activists, including Brazilians, who are part of the international movement of solidarity with the Palestinian people in their just cause for an end of the Israeli occupation.

The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation, together with other Portuguese organisations, involved in the “Yes to Peace! No to NATO!” campaign have published a newspaper that is being distributed throughout the country in several public initiative denouncing NATO and its Warsaw summit.

Castles of clouds gather on our collective horizon; the earth shakes under our feet.

Europe is experiencing times of crisis. A crisis that is political, financial and economical and cultural. We know how in the past these crises were "solved" through war.

But war has returned to Europe since the Balkans; the most reactionary right-wing forces win elections; the tragedy of refugees highlights Europe’s inability to respond with a joint system of protection. All over the world aggressions and military conflicts are taking place.
