The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) repudiates the latest expression of the escalating aggression by the US against Cuba, evident in the staged judicial accusation against Raul Castro, former President of the Republic of Cuba, Army General and one of the most prominent leaders of the Cuban Revolution.

Contrary to what the US administration would have us believe, none of this has anything to do with justice: it is yet another blatant operation against a people whose only “crime” is rejecting the dictates and neocolonial domination that the US wants to impose and insisting on being sovereign, free and in solidarity with the peoples of the world.

After decades of criminal and illegal blockade, with serious consequences for the daily lives of the Cuban people and for Cuba's development capacity, attempted invasions, terrorist attacks and plans to assassinate the revolutionary leadership, in recent months the aggression by the US against Cuba has intensified significantly. The persistent threats of military aggression, the oil siege, and the worsening extraterritorial nature of the blockade, seeking to isolate and suffocate the country, are crimes perpetrated against an entire people, clearly revealing who effectively constitutes a threat to peace, security, and international law: the United States of America.

In this regard, it is important to remember the events that gave rise to the so-called "accusation." In the mid-1990s, while intensifying the blockade, the US promoted and supported interference and terrorism against Cuba: the poisoning of crops, attacks against hotel equipment, and frequent illegal incursions of aircraft into Cuban airspace. "Hermanos al Resgate" was one of many groups with links to the CIA and subversive and terrorist activity against Cuba. Therefore, it did nothing more than legitimately defend itself against destabilization and terrorist action.

Reaffirming its solidarity with the heroic Cuban people, and particularly with Comrade Raul Castro, the CPPC urges all individuals and organizations that defend peace, the rights of peoples, and a more just world to express their indignation at this deplorable charade and raise their voices for Cuba's right to peace, sovereignty, and development, and for an end to the illegal US blockade and threats of military aggression against Cuba.

The CPPC demands that the Portuguese Government abandon once and for all its shameful submission to the US and, in an affirmation of national sovereignty and independence, fight for the principles enshrined in Article 7 of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic, which advocates for peace, the sovereignty of States, and the rights of peoples.

Solidariedade a Cuba!

Fim ao bloqueio e às ameaças de agressão militar!

O Conselho Português para a Paz e Cooperação (CPPC) repudia a mais recente expressão da escalada de agressão dos EUA contra Cuba, patente na encenação de acusação judicial contra Raul Castro, ex-presidente da República de Cuba, General do Exército e um dos mais destacados dirigentes da Revolução cubana.

Ao contrário do que a administração norte-americana pretende fazer crer, nada disto tem a ver com Justiça: trata-se de mais uma descarada operação contra um povo cujo único “crime” é rejeitar os ditames e o domínio neocolonial que os EUA querem impor e insistir em ser soberano, livre e solidário com os povos do mundo.

Depois de décadas de criminoso e ilegal bloqueio, com graves consequências no dia-a-dia do povo cubano e na capacidade de desenvolvimento de Cuba, de tentativas de invasão, atentados terroristas e planos para assassinar a liderança revolucionária, nos últimos meses acentuou-se gravemente a agressão dos EUA contra Cuba. As persistentes ameaças de agressão militar, o cerco petrolífero e o agravamento do carácter extraterritorial do bloqueio, procurando o isolamento e asfixia do país, são crimes perpetrados contra todo um povo, bem reveladores de quem efetivamente constitui uma ameaça à paz, à segurança e ao direito internacional: os Estados Unidos da América.

A este propósito, importa lembrar os acontecimentos que estão na origem da dita “acusação”. Em meados da década de 90 do século XX, ao mesmo tempo que intensificava o bloqueio, os EUA promoviam e apoiavam a ingerência e o terrorismo contra Cuba: o envenenamento de culturas, os atentados contra equipamentos hoteleiros, as frequentes incursões ilegais de aeronaves no espaço aéreo cubano. Os “Hermanos al Resgate” era um dos muitos grupos com ligações à CIA e actividade subversiva e terrorista contra Cuba. Pelo que não fez mais do que legitimamente se defender perante a desestabilização e a acção terrorista.

Reafirmando a sua solidariedade ao heroico povo cubano, e particularmente ao companheiro Raul Castro, o CPPC insta a todas pessoas e organizações defensoras da paz, dos direitos dos povos e de um mundo mais justo que expressem a sua indignação para com esta deplorável encenação e elevem a voz pelo direito de Cuba à paz, à soberania e ao desenvolvimento e pelo fim do ilegal bloqueio norte-americano e das ameaças de agressão militar contra Cuba.

O CPPC reclama do Governo português a que abandone de uma vez a vergonhosa submissão aos EUA e, numa afirmação de soberania e independência nacionais, se bata pelos princípios inscritos no artigo 7.º da Constituição da República Portuguesa, que pugna pela paz, a soberania dos Estados e os direitos dos povos.
