In light of the announcement of a two-week ceasefire following the US and Israeli military aggression against Iran, which began on February 28, the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) demands an immediate and permanent end to the US and Israeli aggression against Iran and Lebanon.
The CPPC underlines that the truce now reached must be respected and fulfilled, including in Lebanon, as stated by the mediator regarding the agreement reached.
The CPPC vehemently condemns the barbaric aggression against Lebanon and the massacre perpetrated by Israel against the Lebanese people, even after the ceasefire agreement came into effect – which resulted in the murder of more than 250 people in Beirut in a few minutes, adding to the more than 1,500 murdered in the previous days – openly defying and attempting to boycott the terms of the ceasefire agreement, as the Israeli authorities have always done, both in Lebanon and in Palestine.

The CPPC emphasizes that, contrary to what some would have us believe, Israel's wars, interference, and territorial claims in Lebanon precede the legitimate Lebanese resistance, which is a consequence – and not a cause – of the ongoing Israeli aggression against that country.
What is needed is the establishment of a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, which requires an end to the genocide of the Palestinian people and the occupation of the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem by Israel, and the creation of the State of Palestine, as determined by UN resolutions; an end to the aggression and occupation of territories of countries in the region by Israel, such as Lebanon or Syria; or an end to the aggression of the US and Israel against Iran, including the lifting of sanctions imposed decades ago against that country; among other important aspects.

Even though it has not materialized, the CPPC does not accept that the gravity of the threat made by the US President to kill an entire civilization and to plunge Iran into the "Stone Age" should be downplayed. Such genocidal statements cannot go unpunished and deserve the clearest condemnation, contributing to the denunciation of the real belligerent and criminal purposes of the US, Israel and their vassals, and to their isolation on the international stage.
As we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the April Constitution, the CPPC reaffirms the validity of the principles enshrined in its Article 7, which all Portuguese governments – including the current one – are obliged to respect, which is far from being the reality.

In the face of the brutal military aggression of the US and Israel against Iran, the Portuguese Government has adopted a subservient stance to this illegal aggression, even allowing the use of the Lajes Air Base for this purpose and, thus, making Portugal an active accomplice to this aggression and flagrant violation of the principles of the UN Charter and international law.
Valuing the resistance of the Iranian people, which forced the US to stop the attacks without any of its illegitimate and illegal objectives being achieved, the CPPC commits itself, in this complex and dangerous time, to continue with the clarification and mobilization in favor of peace, disarmament and solidarity, continuing to seek to involve more people and organizations that defend peace, international law and the Constitution of the Republic, expanding and strengthening the peace movement in our country.

Por uma paz justa e duradoura no Médio Oriente

Face ao anúncio de um cessar-fogo de duas semanas na sequência da agressão militar dos EUA e de Israel ao Irão, iniciada a 28 de Fevereiro, o Conselho Português para a Paz e Cooperação (CPPC) exige o fim imediato e permanente da agressão norte-americana e israelita contra o Irão e o Líbano.

O CPPC sublinha que a trégua agora alcançada deve ser respeitada e cumprida, incluindo no Líbano, como afirmado pelo mediador relativamente ao acordo alcançado.

O CPPC condena veementemente a bárbara agressão ao Líbano e o massacre perpetrado por Israel contra o povo libanês, já após a entrada em vigor do acordo de cessar-fogo – que assassinaram em poucos minutos mais de 250 pessoas em Beirute, que se somaram às mais de 1500 assassinadas nos dias anteriores –, afrontando e procurando boicotar abertamente os termos do acordo de cessar-fogo, aliás como as autoridades de Israel sempre têm feito, seja no Líbano, seja na Palestina.
O CPPC realça que, ao contrário do que alguns pretendem fazer crer, as guerras, as ingerências e as pretensões territoriais de Israel no Líbano precedem a legítima resistência libanesa, que é consequência – e não causa – da permanente agressão israelita contra este país.

O que se impõe é o estabelecimento de uma paz justa e duradoura no Médio Oriente, que exige o fim do genocídio do povo palestiniano e da ocupação da Faixa de Gaza, da Cisjordânia e de Jerusalém Leste por Israel e a concretização do Estado da Palestina, como determinam as resoluções da ONU; o fim da agressão e da ocupação de territórios de países da região por parte de Israel, como o Líbano ou a Síria; ou o fim da agressão dos EUA e de Israel ao Irão, incluindo o levantamento das sanções impostas desde há décadas contra este país; entre outros importantes aspectos.

Por mais que não se tenha concretizado, o CPPC não aceita que se desvalorize a gravidade da ameaça proferida pelo Presidente dos EUA de matar toda uma civilização e de lançar o Irão na “idade da pedra”. Tais afirmações de índole genocida não podem passar em claro e merecem a mais clara condenação, contribuindo para a denúncia dos reais propósitos belicistas e criminosos dos EUA, de Israel e dos seus vassalos, e para o seu isolamento no plano internacional.

Quando se comemora o 50º aniversário da Constituição de Abril, o CPPC reafirma a validade dos princípios consagrados no seu artigo 7.º, que todos os governos portugueses – incluindo o atual – estão obrigados a respeitar, o que está longe de ser realidade.
Perante a brutal agressão militar dos EUA e de Israel ao Irão, o Governo português assumiu uma postura seguidista com esta ilegal agressão, inclusivamente permitindo a utilização da Base das Lajes para esse fim e, assim, tornando Portugal num cúmplice ativo dessa agressão e violação flagrante dos princípios da Carta da ONU e do direito internacional.

Valorizando a resistência do povo iraniano, que forçou os EUA a parar os ataques sem que nenhum dos seus objetivos – ilegítimos e ilegais – tenha sido alcançado, o CPPC compromete-se, neste tempo complexo e perigoso, a prosseguir com o esclarecimento e a mobilização em prol da paz, do desarmamento e da solidariedade, continuando a procurar envolver mais pessoas e organizações defensoras da paz, do direito internacional e da Constituição da República, alargando e reforçando o movimento da paz no nosso país.
