Communiqué of the WPC Regional Meeting of the Middle East
Chania, Greece 6-7 June 2026

The antiimperialist peace movements of the Middle East met on 6-7 June in Chania, Greece having been hosted by the Greek Committee for International Detente and Peace (EEDYE). The Meeting was attended by the Organisations from Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Tunisia, Egypt, Israel, Iraq and Iran, with guests from Cyprus and the Greek Committee for International Democratic Solidarity (EEDDA).
The Meeting expressed its deep concern about the general situation in the region whereas almost all countries and peoples are being affected by the imperialist wars and aggressions of the USA, Israel and their allies.
Over the course of more than two and a half years since the 7th of October 2023, imperialist aggression by Israel and its allies has aggravated in the Middle East.More than 75.000 Palestinians got killed, amongst them 18.000 children. The meeting expressed its demand to hold Israel accountable for war crimes, for the crime of genocide and the terrorist actions of the Settlers in the West Bank.
After decades of massacres of the Palestinian people and occupation of Palestinian land, Israel’s genocidal policies have intensified in this time period. Despite a ceasefire, these policies are continuing in Gaza and the West Bank. We demand the end of the sige of the Palestinian Gaza strip. The WPC reaffirms its position and demand for an independent State of Palestine, within the borders of pre-4th June 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital and the right to return of all refugees according to the UN resolution 194. Likewise, we demand the release of all Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails and denounce the recent law which was approved for the death penalty of Palestinian prisoners. The latest target of imperialism has been and is Iran. Although the intensity of the war launched by the United States and Israel on February 28 is passing different levels, major uncertainties persist, and it remains possible for the clashes to reignite at any moment. In the attacks so far, in which thousands of Iranians have lost their lives and thousands more have been injured, the country’s economy and infrastructure, cultural assets, and educational institutions have suffered severe damage. Nevertheless, the USA and Israel were not able to realize their plans, due to the resistance of the Iranian people.
Taking advantage of the chaos created by the war against Iran, the genocidal Israeli government has once again intensified its attacks on Lebanon and Palestine. Despite the ceasefire that was reached, Israel’s attacks have not stopped, and many Lebanese continue to lose their lives. More than one million people were displaced internally and more than 3.500 lost their lives while more than 10.000 got injured.
The Meeting expressed its solidarity to the Lebanese people’s resistance against the aggression of the Israeli forces. We demand the withdrawal of all Israeli forces from the Lebanese territories and the release of all Lebanese prisoners from Israeli jails.
The Meeting expressed its solidarity to the peace-loving forces and its movement in Syria against the oppression by the ISIS-Al Golani regime in Damascus. We demand the withdrawal of all Israeli forces from the Syrian Golan Heights and other occupied areas after the regime change.
Imperialism is putting into action its preparations to reshape the Middle East in line with its own interests, namely the “New Middle East Plan”. As part of the imperialist system, Israel occupies a leading role as the main actor implementing these policies in the region. The WPC expresses its solidarity to the peoples of the region, including Sudan, Yemen and Western Sahara and demands the shutdown of all foreign military bases in the region and a Middle East as a Nuclear Free Zone. The WPC expresses its solidarity with the peace-loving anti-imperialist forces struggling within Israel in adverse circumstances.
The primary aim of imperialism is to ensure that the states in the region no longer act independently, and do not take positions contrary to imperialist interests. Of course, they are also eager to exploit the region’s resources and infrastructure. To achieve this, they seek to weaken the states in the region, erode their state structures, and blur their borders. By provoking ethnic and religious differences within countries, they seek to divide societies. In the Palestinian Gaza, under the so-called “peace plan,” they are attempting to implement the first of these measures—aiming to establish a kind of free zone where intense labour exploitation can be carried out. However, it has become clear in the recent imperialist war on Iran that imperialism will face great difficulties in achieving its goals and will not easily succeed. The Iranian people united in the face of imperialist attacks and demonstrated strong patriotism, defying the enemy. They made it clear that they will not allow a violent regime change or intervention imposed from outside their own will.
As long as imperialist intervention continues, it will not be possible to achieve peace in the region. Imperialism does not seek stability or peace; what it wants is to deepen conflicts and keep them at a level it can control. The path to real and lasting peace lies in stopping imperialist aggression, the withdrawal of all foreign military forces by ensuring that the peoples of the region are left in peace. The enemies of peace may appear almighty, but the organized popular movements can stop them by revealing and facing the root causes for wars and aggression.
The WPC condemns the imperialist aggression in the Middle East and calls for all organised peace movement and peace-loving forces to take action against it.

Resolution of WPC Regional Meeting Middle Easton Solidarity with Cuba
Chania/Greece, 6th June, 2026

The Members of WPC in the Middle East, in their regional meeting held on 6-7 June in Chania/Greece, expressed their full support and solidarity to the brave Cuban people which is resisting the imperialist siege and blockade by the USA against Cuba.
The intensification of the oil blockade on Cuba through the executive order US President Trump signed on January 29 marked a turning point of this aggression, which has been added to the inclusion of Cuba in the arbitrary list of States sponsoring terrorism. But after 1st May the sanctions and threats multiplied even more. Now the USA is speaking openly about a military intervention in Cuba.
In recent months, only a very limited amount of oil has entered Cuba. As a result, the country is experiencing a severe energy crisis. Consequently, the healthcare system has been seriously affected, and a major assault is being carried out on the right to life of the entire population. This strategy is one of collective punishment and strangulation. For this reason, it is inhumane and, in essence, genocidal.
The WPC is denouncing furthermore the fabricated accusations of the USA against the historical leader of Cuba, Raul Castro for a case of foreign incursion of private planes with mercenaries in 1996, because Cuba exercised its sovereign right to defend its national airspace. Likewise we condemn the additional sanctions posed on the leadership of Cuba and their families.
The United States has long been trying to overthrow the socialist system in Cuba. Yet history has repeatedly shown that the Cuban people are prepared, resilient, and determined to defend their revolution and resist these imperialist attacks.
The resistance of the Cuban people is legitimate, just, and represents the honor and dignity of humanity. The attack carried out against Cuba is an attack directed against all humanity.
The World Peace Council stands with the heroically resisting Cuban people and its revolution and supports this resistance with all its strength and calls upon all members and friends to honor the anniversary of 100 years of Fidel Castro in all countries and in many ways.
Cuba is not alone.
Imperialism will be defeated.
Cuba will win.
