Statement of the COSPAZ
On the recent developments in the Middle East

The Committees for the Solidarity between the Peoples and for Peace (COSPAZ - Spain), on the recent attacks between the States of Israel and Iran, express the following:
1) We strongly condemn the recent aggression of the Zionist regime to Iran. We also remember that, in the last years, several military facilities and key personnel of the Iranian army have been targeted in different operations of the Israeli armed forces, with the explicit support of the United States. This last offensive has further escalated the regional tension as it was addressed against critical infrastructures — including facilities related to the development of nuclear energy, which means an imminent danger for millions of people. These attacks are made within the framework of the rivalry between both countries for the consolidation as the dominant force in the region.
2) Likewise, these attacks are just one more evidence of the genocidal nature of the State of Israel, which everyday displays its violence in the region and, particularly, in the Gaza Strip. Only in the last 20 months —since the beginning of the slaughters in Gaza—, Israel has not only murdered almost 60,000 Palestinian civilians and attacked Iran several times. It has also attacked Lebanon by using electronic devices, invaded new territories in neighboring Syria, and intervened in the conflict in Yemen. The COSPAZ express our most sincere solidarity with the peoples of Iran, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, and Yemen in their struggle against the bloodbaths caused by Zionists.
3) The characteristic violence of the Israeli foreign policy is complemented with an intense diplomatic activity, aiming at continuing to strengthen ties with the main Western powers —mainly the United States and the European Union and NATO member countries— and to normalize relations with other countries in the region —particularly, Saudi Arabia and several countries in the Persian Gulf—. The Israeli diplomacy thus pretends, with this work, to have the complicity and even get logistic, financial, and/or military support from other countries for its military campaigns in the Middle East.
4) In this sense, the COSPAZ are forced to explicitly denounce the complicit role of the Spanish Government. Far from ceasing commercial relations with the State of Israel, it continues their collaboration in the arms business. Symbolic gestures, such as the recognition of Palestine or the verbal clash with officials of the Zionist State, cannot conceal the facts: there is blood and ruins in many places of the Middle East caused by arms made in Spain.
5) We also denounce the use of Spanish territory and the military bases of Rota and Morón for the deployment of US bombardiers in the Middle East, as part of the military support granted in this moment by the Trump Administration to the Israeli Government in its clash with Iran — included for decades in the “black list” of the different US Governments.
6) The response of Iran has uncovered the use made by the Zionist regime of its own population — as human shields for the protection of military facilities. Such reality should force us to think: also in our country, in every city, various institutions and companies connected to the military industry —which is besides promoted as a profitable and stable sector— are moving to different offices and facilites close to workplaces and places of residence. When we are hearing war drums increasingly louder in Europe, there are more and more military targets next to where we work and live.
In view of all the aforementioned, the COSPAZ:
1) Consider that our work is continue to explain the current situation of the world and why the peoples are suffering more due to the imperialist policies of the different States.
2) Our international role is to assist in the consolidation of international structures enabling the working-class majority of the different countries to effectively coordinate between them in order to struggle for peace and counter the action of the imperialist policies in our respective States.
3) Apart from our explanation work, we reaffirm our will to offer the working-class majority —to those who suffer the consequences of such policies— an organized structure in most of the places in our country, capable of promoting every initiative to slow down and ultimately stop the militarization of our economy, the implementation of warmongering policies, and the direct or indirect involvement of our country in the armed conflicts devastating the humankind.
4) We call on every worker, on the youth, on the pensioners, and on the unemployed people to help us build Committees for the Solidarity between the Peoples and for Peace, to organize the activity of the COSPAZ against the wars and the imperialist policies, and to make the peace goals we aim at possible. Any effort anyone can make in this sense can build a mountain impassable for our imperialists.
5) In the current situation, when it is proven by facts that the rearming plans had the goal of the preparation for war, the activity of the COSPAZ demands a wide mobilization against the imperialist war. We call on all the working class and the people as a whole to participate in the demonstrations we will soon make, aiming at fulling the streets and squares in our country with a real opposition to the involvement of Spain in the war.
