On February 27th of 1976, in the city of Bir Lehlu, free territory of Western Sahara, the POLISARIO Front, in representation of the Sahrawi people and respecting Resolution 1514 approved by the United Nations, proclaimed the constitution of a free State, independent and sovereign named Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, assumed the responsibility of recovering the territorial integrity and the sovereignty of its homeland,
militarily occupied the previous year by the Kingdom of Morocco.

The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) is promoting in Portugal a series of “Concerts for Peace”. The first Concert for Peace was held in Lisbon, on November 19th 2014, the second one was held in Oporto, on January 9th 2016 and the third one will take place on March 18th in the city of Vila Nova de Gaia.
Concerts for Peace involve diverse cultural and municipal entities and have the participation of hundreds of artists.
In the framework of the “Yes to Peace! No to NATO's military manoeuvres” campaign, promoted by the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation and more than 30 other Portuguese organizations, including CGTP-IN, women and youth organizations, initiatives are taking place in Portugal.

NATO has announced it will undertake large scale military manoeuvres in Spain, Italy and Portugal, from the beginning of October until the beginning of November 2015. These exercises will involve more than 36 000 personnel from the 28 member states of this political military bloc and from other “partner” countries and organizations.
Today we commemorate the International Day of Peace, initiative launched by the United Nations in 1981.

70 Years of the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
On August 6 and 9 70 years will have passed on the nuclear bombing against the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the United States of America. On this occasion the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) recalls the barbaric act committed against defenceless populations at a time when the Japanese empire was already military defeated on land in Asian front and on the Pacific air and sea fronts. Japan had already started the process of surrendering to the Allied Forces.
NATO, a bellicist alliance, an extension of US military power and which acts according to its interests, will hold in Portugal, Spain and Italy from the beginning of October to November 6, 2015, vast military exercises involving more than 36 000 troops from all branches of the armed forces from member states of this alliance and 7 other "partner countries".
