WPC Statement on the recent Israeli-UAE agreement

Thursday, August 20, 2020

The World Peace Council stresses the centrality of the Palestinian
issue for the Peace in the region and its firm position on the
Palestinian matter as the crucial issue in the Middle East conflict.
Commenting on the Israeli-Emirati (United Arab Emirates-UAE)
agreement to normalize relations between them under US auspices, we
underline that peace in the Middle East will only be achieved by
resolving the Palestinian issue on the basis of UN resolutions ,
international law and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
Such solution must guarantee the complete Israeli withdrawal from the
lands occupied in 1967, the independence of the occupied Palestinian
state within the borders of the 4th June 1967, with east Jerusalem as
its capital and the guarantee of the right of Palestinian refugees to
return in accordance with UN Resolution 194.
The WPC reaffirms that any circumvention of these rights through
bilateral or trilateral agreements that do not guarantee these
conditions will not be in the interest of peace and stability in the
region and cannot serve the peoples of the region. This is visible
especially these days where we witness heavy Israeli bombing of the
Palestinian Gaza Strip, which we strongly denounce and condemn.
The WPC reiterates its full-hearted solidarity with the just struggle
of the Palestinian people in order to achieve these goals, against the
imperialist plans in the region.
