Statement of WPC regarding the recent massacre against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip

Wednesday, May 16, 2018

The World Peace Council (WPC) denounces strongly to the peoples of the world the recent and still ongoing massacre of the Israeli army against peaceful Palestinian protesters in the Gaza strip. This new brutal crime of the occupation regime shows its cruel face and proves the arrogance of a heavily armed state which denies for more than 70 years the right for an independent State for the Palestinians, as it ought to have happened according to the UN Resolution 181 in 1947.

The killing of dozens unarmed civilian Palestinians constitutes a barbaric crime against humanity by the Israeli regime. It becomes even more provocative that these massacre takes place during the 70th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba, where hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were forced to leave their homes, while being chased and murdered by the Israeli occupation army supported by British colonial forces . The protests of the Palestinian people are related also to the unilateral decision of the US administration Trump to transfer the US embassy from Tel Aviv to the occupied Jerusalem, a city which is protected by the international law for its multi-ethnic and multi-religious character. The "de facto" proclamation of Jerusalem as capital of Israel by the USA is not only provoking the sentiments of the Arab people. It is with anger that the WPC rejects vehemently the efforts of the Israeli regime and the US administration for the recognition of Israel as a Jewish state and the judaization of Israel and of Jerusalem.

The WPC demands the end of the massacre by the Israeli army and expresses its full-hearted solidarity with the brave Palestinian people which are going through a slow genocide by the Israeli occupation. We reiterate that there cannot be any real peace in the region without ending the occupation of Palestine and all Arab territories occupied by Israel , the establishment of an independent State of Palestine, within the borders of pre-4th June 1967 and with East Jerusalem as its capital. We demand that such state shall be recognized by the UN as full member as well as by the UN member States. Likewise all Palestinian prisoners have to be released from Israeli jails. The WPC supports the right for the return of the Palestinian refugees to their homes according to the UN resolution 194.

The WPC sends a message of solidarity also the peace loving forces who struggle inside Israel side by side with the Palestinian people for the end of the occupation in the Palestinian lands.
