The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) salutes the resistance of the
Palestinian people against Israeli occupation, colonisation, and oppression.
May 15 marks the 75 th . anniversary of the expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians
from their homes, from hundreds of villages in the historic territory of Palestine, by the
Israeli militias and army when the State of Israel was founded.
That fateful date, which the Palestinians describe as the day of the «Nakba», that is, of the
«Catastrophe», marks the beginning of the forced exodus of the Palestinian people, which
remains one of the central issues for this people, as shown by the persistent and courageous
struggle they have waged for the implementation of their inalienable national rights,
including the right of return. Rights that are even enshrined in resolutions of the General
Assembly of the United Nations, namely, in Resolution 194 of December 11, 1948, and
subsequent.
The Palestinians expelled from the land where they had always lived, and their families, now
constitute the largest and oldest refugee community in the world!
Seventy-five years later, not only does the situation of these refugees remain unresolved,
but the expulsion of Palestinians from their homes and lands by Israeli forces and settlers
that started then has not ceased, including in territories illegally occupied by the State of
Israel where, since 1967, it continues to build settlements. Added to this is the production of
laws that are discriminatory and harmful to Palestinian citizens of Israel, namely the 2018
Israeli law that grants full citizenship only to Jews.
Israeli military occupations of Palestinian territory, the destruction of entire villages, the
murders, and arbitrary arrests, including of minors, segregation, and other crimes and
violations of international law perpetrated by the State of Israel against the Palestinian
people, have been intensifying over decades.
This has been possible and encouraged by the complacency of the United States of America
and the European Union. Presenting themselves, de facto, as protectors of the State of Israel
and its actions, these powers have tried to silence those who show solidarity with the
Palestinian people and denounce those crimes, while taking advantage of business with the
Israeli State and its geostrategic location.
The CPPC, based on international law, the United Nations Charter, and the Constitution of the
Portuguese Republic, will continue to fight against this situation. Actively in solidarity with the
Palestinian people and their struggle to materialise their legitimate national rights, the CPPC
will not let the Palestinian cause be forgotten and urges all democrats to remain in solidarity
with them; to call for effective actions in favour of peace in the Middle East, in accordance
with applicable United Nations resolutions.
In these times when it is necessary to tear the web of silence and hypocrisy that some try to
weave around the Palestinian cause, the CPPC stands beside these courageous people and
invites all democrats and defenders of peace to accompany it in reaffirming the demand for
the creation of the Palestinian State on the borders before June 4, 1967 and with its capital
in East Jerusalem, and for the right of return of Palestinian refugees and the release of all
Palestinian political prisoners from Israeli prisons.

Solidariedade com a Palestina

O Conselho Português para a Paz e Cooperação (CPPC) saúda a resistência do povo palestino
contra a ocupação, colonização e opressão israelitas.
Perfazem-se, a 15 de maio, 75 anos sobre a expulsão de centenas de milhar de palestinos
das suas casas, de centenas de povoações do território histórico da Palestina, pelas milícias e
pelo exército israelitas aquando da fundação do Estado de Israel.
Essa data fatídica, que os palestinos designam como o dia da «Nakba», ou seja, da
«Catástrofe», marca o início do êxodo forçado do povo palestino, que permanece uma das
questões centrais para este povo como bem tem demonstrado a persistente e corajosa luta
que tem travado pela realização dos seus inalienáveis direitos nacionais incluindo o direito ao
retorno. Direitos que, inclusive, estão consagrados em resoluções da Assembleia Geral das
Nações Unidas, designadamente, na Resolução 194 de 11 de dezembro de 1948, e
seguintes.
Os palestinos expulsos da terra onde sempre tinham vivido, e suas famílias, constituem hoje
a maior e mais antiga comunidade de refugiados do mundo!
Setenta e cinco anos passados, não só a situação destes refugiados se mantém por resolver,
como também aexpulsão de palestininos das suas casas e terras pelas forças e colonos
israelitas então iniciada não cessou, incluindo em territórios ocupados ilegalmente pelo
Estado de Israel onde, desde 1967, continua a construir colonatos. A isso soma-se a
produção de leis discriminatórias e lesivas dos próprios cidadãos palestinos de Israel,
designadamente a lei israelita de 2018 que concede a plena cidadania apenas a judeus.
As ocupações militares israelitas de território palestino; as destruições de povoações inteiras
e; os assassínios; e as prisões arbitrárias, incluindo de menores de idade; a segregação, e demais crimes e violações do direito internacional perpetrados pelo Estado de Israel
contra o povo palestino, têm-se vindo a intensificar ao longo de décadas.
Tal tem sido possível e estimulado pela complacência dos Estados Unidos da América e da
União Europeia. Apresentando-se, de facto, como protetoras do Estado de Israel e das suas
ações, estas potências têm procurado silenciar quem se solidariza com o povo palestino e
denuncia aqueles crimes, enquanto tiram proveito de negócios com o Estado israelita e da
localização geoestratégica deste.
Contra essa situação continuará a bater-se o CPPC, fundado no direito internacional, na
Carta das Nações Unidas e na Constituição da República Portuguesa. Ativamente solidário
com o povo palestino e a luta que este trava para realizar os seus legítimos direitos
nacionais, o CPPC não deixará que a causa palestina seja esquecida e exorta os democratas
a manterem-se solidários com a mesma; a reclamarem ações efetivas a favor da paz no
Médio Oriente, de acordo com as resoluções aplicáveis da Organização das Nações Unidas;
Nestes tempos em que é necessário romper com a malha de silêncio e hipocrisia que alguns
procuram tecer em torno da causa palestina, o CPPC mantém-se ao lado desse corajoso
povo e convida os democratas e defensores da paz a acompanhá-lo na reafirmação da
exigência da criação do Estado Palestino nas fronteiras anteriores a 4 de junho de 1967 e
capital em Jerusalém Oriental, e pelo direito de regresso dos refugiados palestinos e a
libertação de todos os presos políticos palestinos das prisões israelitas.
