Seventeen years after the Israeli imprisonment of the Palestinian MP Ahmad Sa’adat, perpetrated on January 15th 2002, the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) reaffirms the demand for his liberation, as well as the liberation of all other Palestinian political prisoners —more than 5000, many of which children— incarcerated in Israeli prisons.
Ahmad Sa’adat, elected General Secretary of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) after the Israeli assassination of his predecessor, Abu Ali Mustafa, was prosecuted by Israel for his leadership in the legitimate Palestinian resistance against the illegal and brutal Israeli occupation.
On this day, CPPC salutes all those who are in solidarity with the just Palestinian cause, including the liberation of Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli jails, and joins the International Week of Action to free Ahmad Sa’adat.

Given the continued criminal action of the Israeli government, CPPC demands that the Portuguese government, obeying the Constitution and respecting the most elementary principles of International Law, condemn and denounce the institutionalized and generalized Israeli repression against the Palestinian people, including the continued aggression and siege against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, demanding its immediate and unconditional end.
CPPC reaffirms that the way forwards is the end to the illegal Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories, the dismantlement of the settlements, the Israeli wall of segregation, the blockade to Gaza, the release of Palestinian political prisoners from Israeli prisons, the respect of the right of return of refugees and the recognition of the Palestinian State along the pre-1967 borders, with capital in East Jerusalem.

Liberdade para Ahmad Sa'adat e todos os outros prisioneiros políticos palestinos encarcerados nas prisões israelitas

Quando se assinalam 17 anos sobre a prisão por Israel do deputado palestino Ahmad Sa’adat, perpetrada a 15 de Janeiro de 2002, o Conselho Português para a Paz e Cooperação (CPPC) reafirma a exigência da sua libertação, assim como da libertação de todos os outros presos políticos palestinos – mais de 5000, muitos dos quais crianças – encarcerados nas prisões israelitas .

Ahmad Sa’adat, eleito secretário-geral da Frente Popular para a Libertação da Palestina (FPLP) após o assassinato, por Israel, do seu antecessor, Abu Ali Mustafa, foi julgado por Israel pelo seu papel de liderança na legítima resistência palestina à ilegal e brutal ocupação israelita.

Neste dia, o CPPC saúda os que pelo mundo se mantêm solidários com a justa causa palestina, incluindo a libertação dos presos políticos palestinos dos cárceres israelitas, e associa-se à Semana Internacional de Acção pela Liberdade de Ahmad Sa’adat.

Perante a continuada actuação criminosa do Governo israelita, o CPPC reclama do Governo Português, em obediência aos preceitos constitucionais e no respeito dos princípios mais elementares do Direito Internacional – que condene e denuncie a acção de repressão institucionalizada e generalizada de Israel contra o povo palestino – de que é exemplo a sua contínua agressão e cerco à população palestina da Faixa de Gaza –, exigindo a sua cessação imediata e incondicional.

O CPPC reafirma que o caminho é o fim da ilegal ocupação israelita de territórios palestinianos, o desmantelamento dos colonatos, do muro israelita de segregação, do bloqueio a Gaza, a libertação dos presos políticos palestinos das prisões israelitas, o respeito pelo direito ao regresso dos refugiados e o reconhecimento do Estado da Palestina nas fronteiras anteriores a Junho de 1967 e com capital em Jerusalém Oriental.
