Since Israel's aggression against the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip and until January 26, 44 actions for peace in the Middle East and in solidarity with the Palestinian people took place in Portugal, promoted by the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC), by the General Confederation of Portuguese Workers – Intersindical Nacional (CGTP-IN), by the Movement for the Rights of the Palestinian People and for Peace in the Middle East (MPPM) and by the Noise Project – Youth Association, and joined by many other organisations.

In very diverse ways, with debates, talks, distributions, photo-protests, concentrations, parades and demonstrations, loudly expressed the urgency of peace in the Middle East, an independent Palestine, an end to war and massacre.

Several thousand people joined these moments of struggle, demanding a permanent and immediate ceasefire to put an end to death, suffering and destruction; demanding urgent humanitarian aid to the Palestinian population of the Gaza Strip; demanding an end to the occupation, settlements and Israeli oppression against the Palestinian people; demanding compliance with the national rights of the Palestinian people, with the creation of a sovereign, independent and viable State of Palestine, on the pre-1967 borders, with its capital in East Jerusalem, and the right of return for Palestinian refugees, as established by numerous UN resolutions.

Of the eight demonstrations and parades held (on November 16 in Beja, on November 21 in Coimbra, on November 5 and 26, and on December 19, in Porto, on October 29, December 8 and January 14, in Lisbon), the expression of solidarity with the Palestinian people in Portugal was evident, just as it was in many other countries around the world.

On Sunday, January 14, several thousand people took part in the demonstration in Lisbon that meaningfully connected the US and Israeli embassies, in an expressive denunciation of the massacre committed in the Gaza Strip against the Palestinian people, which, on that date, completed 100 days. At this demonstration, South Africa's initiative to initiate proceedings against Israel for genocide at the International Court of Justice was welcomed – with pennants, slogans and speeches. In the year which celebrates the 50th. anniversary of the April Revolution, the principles enshrined in article 7 of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic were highlighted, with the cry of "25th.April Always! Fascism never again!" and "Grândola Vila Morena" was heard, given that peace and solidarity with the peoples have been the values of this Revolution.

Continuar a solidariedade com o povo palestiniano!

Desde o início da agressão de Israel à população palestiniana na Faixa de Gaza, realizaram-se em Portugal, até ao passado dia 26 de Janeiro, 44 ações pela paz no Médio Oriente e em solidariedade com o povo palestiniano, promovidas pelo Conselho Português para a Paz e Cooperação (CPPC), pela Confederação Geral dos Trabalhadores Portugueses – Intersindical Nacional (CGTP-IN) pelo Movimento Pelos Direitos do Povo Palestino e pela Paz no Médio Oriente (MPPM) e pelo Projecto Ruído – Associação Juvenil, às quais se associaram muitas outras organizações.

Das mais variadas formas, através da realização de debates, conversas, distribuições, fotoprotestos, concentrações, desfiles e manifestações, continuou-se a afirmar bem alto a urgência da paz no Médio Oriente, de uma Palestina independente, do fim da guerra e do massacre.

Foram muitos milhares de pessoas que se associaram a estes momentos de luta, exigindo um cessar-fogo permanente e imediato que ponha fim à morte, ao sofrimento e à destruição; exigindo a urgente ajuda humanitária à população palestiniana da Faixa de Gaza; exigindo o fim da ocupação, dos colonatos, da opressão israelita contra o povo palestiniano; exigindo o cumprimento dos direitos nacionais do povo palestiniano, com a criação de um Estado da Palestina soberano, independente e viável, nas fronteiras anteriores a 1967, com capital em Jerusalém Oriental, e o direito de retorno dos refugiados palestinianos, como estipulam inúmeras resoluções da ONU.

Das oito manifestações e desfiles realizados (no dia 16 de novembro, em Beja, no dia 21 de novembro em Coimbra, nos dias 5 e 26 de novembro, e no dia 19 de dezembro, no Porto, nos dias dias 29 de outubro, 8 de dezembro e 14 de Janeiro, em Lisboa), foi evidente a expressão em Portugal da solidariedade com o povo palestiniano, tal como em muitos outros países no mundo.

No domingo, 14 de Janeiro, muitos milhares de pessoas participaram na manifestação em Lisboa que significativamente uniu as embaixadas dos EUA e de Israel, numa expressiva denúncia do massacre cometido na Faixa de Gaza contra o povo palestiniano que completou, nessa data, 100 dias. Nesta manifestação, foi saudada – em pancartas, palavras de ordem e intervenções – a iniciativa da África do Sul de instaurar um processo contra Israel por genocídio no Tribunal Internacional de Justiça. No ano em que se cumprem 50 anos da Revolução de Abril, foram realçados os princípios consagrados no artigo 7.º da Constituição da República Portuguesa, gritou-se "25 de Abril Sempre! Fascismo nunca mais!" e escutou-se a "Grândola, Vila Morena", ou não tivesse sido a paz e a solidariedade com os povos valores desta Revolução.
