Bolivarian Venezuela. Courage and Resilience

Wednesday, March 31, 2021

The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) has followed with great outrage, but without surprise, the first signs of foreign policy coming from the new Administration of the United States of America, and, in particular, in relation to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela .

Outrage at the perverse and illegal sanctions imposed by the US on Venezuela, which have exacerbated the country's economic difficulties and dramatically affected all the people, especially the poorest, inflicting atrocious suffering, including on the large Portuguese community living in that country.

The current Administration seems to want to pursue this policy of interference and blockade, albeit with some window dressing, in order to facilitate the involvement of third countries in its project of a hybrid war against sovereign Venezuela, which courageously fights for the management of its natural resources to improve the lives of its people in the face of an oligarchy accustomed to living off income from exploitation by proxy of multinationals.

It is along these lines the statement by Anthony Blinken - a fervent defender of the "exceptionalism" of the American nation and interventionism as a "moral duty" – reiterating in the name of the new Administration, support for Guaidó, despite the fact that he is nothing but an instrument of appropriation of Venezuelan assets abroad.

The real motivation for the frenzy of the successive US administrations against Venezuela, as against Cuba and other countries, is well known, and it is not credible that the Portuguese government ignores it. Therefore, the role that it has been playing in these manoeuvres is indeed strange.

The CPPC salutes Bolivarian Venezuela for the courage and resilience it has shown and expresses its firm solidarity in the struggle against imperialism, in defence of sovereignty and development.
