Against the US threats and provocations in the Korean Peninsula!

Thursday, March 23, 2017

The Presidency of the World Peace Council rejects the irresponsible threats of aggression of the United States against the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) made by its State Secretary Rex Tillerson on Friday (17th of March), speaking from their ally's platform, in South Korea.

The US has for years promoted a policy of interference and destabilization in the Korean Peninsula, investing in the Korean people's division and in reiterated threats against the People's Korea, with repeated military drills, sanctions and arrogant statements.

The World Peace Council (WPC) has reaffirmed its solidarity with the Korean people in their struggle for the nation's peaceful reunification, for peace and security in the region, which includes the DPRK's call for a definitive peace agreement that has not been signed since the suspension of hostilities of the war promoted by the imperialist power, back in the 1950s.

The WPC also supports the Korean people in defense of their sovereignty against interference from the US, which designates itself the role of the world's police. The US has almost 30,000 soldiers in South Korea and conducts annual military exercises with South Korea and Japan, in an unacceptable show of force. Still, Tillerson threatens to attack the DPRK.

We reaffirm our support to the peaceful resolution of the situation in the Korean Peninsula and for the diplomatic initiatives aiming to solve the nuclear issue. We demand the withdrawal of US troops and their nuclear weapons from the Korean Peninsula.

We vehemently reject statements such as that made by Tillerson, who represents a Government led by a chauvinist President like Donald Trump.
