Exactly 49 years ago, on April 24, 1976, the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) was formally established, inheriting and continuing the peace movement that emerged in the 1950s, which faced the repression of the fascist regime and fought bravely against war, including the colonial war, in favor of peace, disarmament, solidarity and cooperation among the peoples of the world, and respecting the principles of the United Nations Charter.

The U.S. Peace Council strongly condemns the outrageous, criminal and illegal attack on the sovereign state of Iran by the United States administration of Donald P. Trump. This flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter and the Nuremberg condemnation of wars of choice, should serve as a graphic demonstration that U.S. imperialism continues to operate beyond the boundaries of law, rejecting any accountability or constraints on its behavior.

On the afternoon of April 13, the first Peace Concert of 2025 took place at the Constantino Nery Municipal Theater of Matosinhos. Organized by the CPPC with the support of the City of Matosinhos, the Concert featured interventions from various areas, provided by people of different ages. The opening and presentation was by Iolanda Oliveira, who read an excerpt from a Palestinian author.

The WPC expresses its strong condemnation of the recent and ongoing air attacks of Israel against Iran. The Israeli regime which has its hands in blood with the ongoing genocidal war against the Palestinian people is now advancing its plans in the broader region. This would not be possible without the full support and endorsement by the USA and the European Union which we denounce vehemently.
Once more Israel proofs to be the aggressor of the Middle East and the caretaker of the Imperialist plans in the region.

On March 30, in Jardim do Infante, in Porto, hundreds of people responded to the appeal of the CPPC, CGTP-IN, MPPM and Projecto Ruído, which was joined by other organizations, namely USP, SPN, MDM, among others, in solidarity with the Palestinian people, who continue to be victims of the genocide carried out by Israel.

Also in Coimbra, on the same day, on the Santa Clara bridge, a banner painted on number 26 was displayed, demanding that peace be given a chance, and that the ceasefire be immediately observed. Palestine Will Win!

The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation strongly condemns the massacres that took place a few days ago in Syria by the so-called “security forces of the new government” – in reality by members of armed groups, such as Al-Qaeda or the Islamic State, which for more than a decade have terrorized the country and committed heinous crimes against its population.
