Immediate end of Morocco's aggression against Western Sahara

Saturday, November 14, 2020

Following the news that the Kingdom of Morocco initiated, in the early hours of the morning of this Friday, November 13, a military aggression against Western Sahara, carrying out an incursion into Saharawi territory in the area of Guerguerat, after, in the last days information on Moroccan military activities with troop parking and armaments near the border.
In the face of this aggression, in flagrant violation of the ceasefire agreement in force since 1991, under the auspices of the UN, the Polisario front forces evacuated civilians from the area and responded to the attack.
The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) considers it urgent that all peace lovers mobilize themselves in demanding:
- the immediate end to the aggression of the Kingdom of Morocco and the withdrawal of its military forces from the region;
- that the UN condemn the illegal aggression perpetrated by the Kingdom of Morocco and demands the end of the aggression, and compliance with the ceasefire agreement
CPPC reaffirms its firm solidarity with the Saharawi people and its legitimate representative, the Polisario Front, and recalls that the Saharawi people have lived for decades under the occupation of the Kingdom of Morocco, where they are subject to murders, beatings and arbitrary arrests, or forced into exile, as in refugee camps, in extremely precarious conditions.
The CPPC considers that the necessary just solution for Western Sahara requires:
-The end of the Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara;
-The installation of a permanent UN mechanism to monitor respect for the human rights of the Saharawi people in the occupied territories;
-The release of Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan prisons;
-Respect for the inalienable right to self-determination of the Saharawi people;
It also considers that the Portuguese Government is obliged to take a clear position to condemn the aggression of the Kingdom of Morocco against the Saharawi people and to demand compliance with UN deliberations regarding Western Sahara.

- do fim imediato da agressão do Reino de Marrocos e da retirada das suas forças militares da região;
-O fim da ocupação marroquina do Saara Ocidental;
-A instalação de um mecanismo permanente da ONU para o acompanhamento do respeito dos direitos humanos do povo saarauí nos territórios ocupados;
-A libertação dos presos políticos saarauís nas prisões marroquinas;
-O respeito pelo inalienável direito à auto-determinação do povo saarauí;
