The Brazilian Center of Solidarity with the Peoples and Struggle for Peace (Cebrapaz) expresses its concern and revolt for the interception and abduction by Israeli naval forces of women activists for peace that are in a mission against the blockade of Gaza by Israel, in the Women's Boat to Gaza, on Wednesday (5 October 2016), when they approached the Palestinian territory, which is under siege since 2007.

Considering what a nuclear war would represent, global nuclear disarmament is a central issue in the defense of peace, for the survival of the human species and the maintenance of life on Earth as we know it today.

The presence of nuclear weapons in the arsenals of some countries is a threat upon each one of us, upon peoples, upon all living beings on the planet. Such a threat never existed until the advent of the military use of nuclear energy.

Seldom before, as the time we live in, it has been so important to celebrate the International Day of Peace - proclaimed in 1981 by the United Nations - given the multiple and serious threats to peace which the people, which Humanity is currently facing.

This 21st of September we celebrate the peace and justice loving peoples' commitment, symbolized in this international date, as established in 1981 by the UN. The International Day of Peace is, above all, a moment of reaffirmation of this commitment, of evaluation of our progress and for deepening our struggle, which is firm and irreducible, against wars, colonialism, imperialism and all forms of oppression that prevent us from building a world of equality among all peoples and nations.
