The World Peace Council (WPC) denounces strongly the recent decision of a group of States within the “Organisation of American States (OAS)” to activate the Inter-American Reciprocal Assistance Treaty (TIAR) about Venezuela, as an instrument of interference in the sovereign affairs of countries since many decades.
The treaty was always a mechanism imposed by the USA with the aim of legitimizing military interventions in Latin America for ideological reasons as it has happened in Guatemala (1954), in Cuba (1961), in the Dominican Republic (1965), in Grenada (1983) and in Panama (1989).
The new provocation by the OAS constitutes an open violation of the founding principles of UN Charter against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, its elected government and people. It constitutes furthermore an escalation in the aggression and a threat for military intervention by the USA and its willing allies in the region, a danger for peace and stability in the whole area.
The WPC expresses its full-hearted solidarity with the people of Venezuela and their sovereign right to defend their fatherland, their achievements and to decide freely and without any foreign interference about their future and destiny. We condemn the multifaceted actions of the US administration, the European Union and several governments of Latin America which aim in the overthrow of the legitimate President of Venezuela by various attempts of Coup d’ Etat, economic war and sanctions from which the people of Venezuela are suffering serious consequences.
We demand the end of all the coercive measures by the OAS, the US administration and the EU which aim at asphyxiating the Venezuelan people while trying to impose a self-proclaimed puppet in a violent regime-change practice in the country.
Hands off Venezuela!
Down with the Imperialist policies in Latin America!
