Remember Hiroshima and Nagasaki
Ban all nuclear weapons in the world
72 years after the criminal USA bombings over the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki - on August 6th and 9th - and bearing in mind the hundreds of thousands of victims, it is now more urgent than ever to demand the ban of all nuclear weapons in the world.

At a time when the world situation is characterized by growing instability and insecurity, resulting first of all from a growing arms race, from militarism, interventionism and wars imposed by the USA, NATO, EU and their allies, with their imperialist policy of domination, plunder and aggression, there is the great danger of an escalation to a confrontation of great proportions, including the use of nuclear weapons - that, if not prevented, would mean the end of humanity.

Being responsible for the only time nuclear weapons were used against populations, the USA possesses one of the largest nuclear stockpiles, installed in their territory and throughout the world - in USA-NATO military bases -, with their military doctrine acknowledging the possibility of a first strike. with nuclear weapons.

Within the framework of their aggressive military doctrine the USA presently develop a program to modernize its nuclear arsenal - with the announced cost of over a trillion USD in the next 30 years - and install an anti-missile system in Europe, the Arctic and Asia, that especially targets Russia and China, searching to guarantee USA's capacity to avoid another country's response to a USA first strike with nuclear weapons.

The global stockpile of nuclear warheads, around 15000, with new developments in nuclear weapons technology and delivery mechanisms driving proliferation - 1800 nuclear warheads are on High-Alert - is a threat to the very survival of humanity.

Within this framework, the adoption on last July 7th of the treaty on the prohibition of nuclear weapons by the United Nations conference to negotiate a legally binding instrument to prohibit nuclear weapons, leading towards their total elimination has major significance - a reflection of the aspiration of the peoples, the world peace movement and the efforts of non nuclear States, for a world free from nuclear weapons.

On the other hand, the 2015 Non-Proliferation Treaty’s Review Conference resulted in another fiasco, failing to adopt a final document due to the opposition of USA, UK, and Canada. These countries followed the same line along with Israel, who opposed convening a conference on the Middle East as a zone free from nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction.

In a period of deep economic crisis of capitalism, the world is facing new dangers and threats to peace, including ongoing imperialist military interventions against sovereign countries and the revival of Fascism in old and new forms. Humanity is facing the dangers of a generalized war of global dimensions. However, this is also a time for hope, based on the struggles of the peace-loving peoples of the world, that this eventuality can be stopped. We need to recall lessons from historical struggles, and unite all consequent and broad forces for peace social justice and progress in a strong mobilization whose strength, breadth and conviction can prevent new tragedies from occurring.

Nuclear holocaust never again!

Paying homage to the victims of the nuclear terror of Hiroshima and Nagazaki, evoking the goal of 1950's WPC Stockholm Appeal for a world free from nuclear weapons, reaffirming our commitment and determination with the cause of peace, to building a fairer world of social progress, we call on all peace loving and anti-Imperialist forces to increment their struggle for:

-The ban of all nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction, and for general and controlled disarmament;

-The rejection of USA/NATO's anti-missile system installation and the abolition of all foreign military bases;

-The defence of the principles of the UN Charter, in the defence of peace, sovereignty of States and equality of peoples' rights.
