End the Israeli occupation - Solidarity with the Palestinian people!

Monday, April 18, 2022

The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation marks and commemorates the Palestinian Land Day, which is celebrated today, March 30th., reaffirming the end of the illegal occupation of Palestinian territories by Israel and the demand for compliance with international law, namely the national rights of the Palestinian people.

On March 30, 1976, six young Palestinians were murdered, hundreds were wounded and detained by Israeli troops during the general strike and large demonstrations against the illegal and violent appropriation of Palestinian lands by Israel, making this date a landmark moment in the legitimate resistance of the Palestinian people against the occupation, of their just struggle for a free and independent Palestine.

46 years after the events of March 30, 1976, the State of Israel continues to disrespect international law, including several UN resolutions, and the illegal occupation of Palestinian territories continues, supported by a colonialist policy and xenophobia by the Israeli authorities, which is supported politically, financially and militarily by the United States of America, but also by the European Union.

In evoking the Land Day, the CPPC reaffirms its condemnation of the criminal policy of the Israeli authorities and calls for continued action of solidarity with the heroic resistance of the Palestinian people, demanding compliance with their inalienable national rights.

The CPPC reaffirms that there is an urgent need for a path towards Peace, a path that has precisely to involve the fulfilment of international law, therefore the end of the illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories by Israel, a free and independent State of Palestine, on the 1967 borders and with capital in East Jerusalem, in accordance with UN resolutions, respect of the right of return of Palestinian refugees, the release of Palestinian political prisoners jailed in Israeli prisons.

The CPPC urges the Portuguese government, within the framework of the principles of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic, of the United Nations Charter, of international law, to act effectively in the international institutions where it is represented in favour of the fulfilment of the national rights of the Palestinian people, brutally disrespected for decades by Israel.
